Make sure you have Gamepad Support unticked if you want to use keyboard in-game. It can be found under Gamepad Controlls in Pause Menu/Main Menu.
Same with the keyboard, My character wont move, the only button that works is escape.

I am having this issue as well and controller support IS "unchecked", that is, it is set to "off" in the controller menu. My god how did this game even get released with a bug like this still in play?

Oh my... That is Gamebreaking bug that should be fixed asap. But why is there 2,000+ people playing the buggy patch still? :?

had the same problem, but a restart seemed to get it working...

I don't know if I'm too late, though the fix is right here: I fixed it by deleting my prefs.ini from the game folder and start up the game. Then the game automatically created a new prefs.ini. You can safely delete prefs.ini, though i would recommend making a backup of your save anyways.

I am encountering the same thing like 30% of the time I launch the game with my 360 controller that stays plugged in all the time.

Would also recommend using joy2key or similar if not using an xbox controller, as none of my joysticks worked at all unless I used x360ce or similar to emulate a 360 controller

I have had the unfortunate realization that - at least for me - it has nothing at all to do with having a 360 controller plugged in. Even using only the keyboard this issue is still present. Using a SNES controller with Xpadder - same issue. Sometimes the game just won't let you move and you have to remake the session.

Is Late but the solution is the next: open "prefs.ini", search "Joystick", and change the option "joystick_on=1" to 0.
