Games like this one?
Hi all, loved this game so much it became my first game to 100%. Sure, its easy to do, but it was so fun last year.
I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of games that are similar, rogue-lite, or whatever. I like the idea of death progression.
Please share you game(s) c:

Have you tried Rogue Legacy? It has death progression in spades, AND it's a hell of a lot of fun!

"20XX"
Buy new items after a run and they appear in your next runs.

"The Binding Of Isaac"
Unlock new items while beating the game or just playing it.

"Crypt Of The Necrodancer"
Collect gems in your run.
You can buy more max-health and things, that will appear in future runs.

"Dungeon Souls"
Upgrade your chars after a run permanently with gold.
Has also some sort of crafting in it... don't know much about since I didn't played it for a long time.

"Enter The Gungeon"
Unlock new weapons and items for your future runs.
But be warned, it's either way fairly balanced, so you don't make your game easier while unlocking these things.

"Eternal Step"
Didn't played much of it, but you can collect equipment as cards and use these things for your next run.
Isn't as spectecular as it sounds, but it's there.

"Flamebreak"
Unlock (I think) new classes and weapons for future runs.
Again, nothing that makes the game constantly easier, just mixes the gameplay up a bit.

"Hand Of Fate"
Unlock new cards to mix up gameplay in a fairly interesting way.
Hard to describe in a short way, just watch some kind of review.

"Lost Castle"
You collect souls through your run, after dying or beating the game, you can spend these things tu upgrade various things for easier runs.
It's a bit like "Rogue Legacy" in that regard.

"Magicite"
You can unlock classes, and some sort of equipment for future runs.
Makes the game slightly easier and help you to create specific builds.

"Our Darker Purpose"
A bit like "The Binding Of Isaac".
You can unlock various things by spending a special currency for your future runs.
This currency is sometimes tricky to get.

"Psycho Starship Rampage"
One of my favourites.
Beneath a campain, there is a Survival Mode, and you more you play it, the more you unlock things to create your ship.
But beware... it doesn't make things easier, it can make things harder, cause the more items are in the item-pool, the harder it is to get a specific item.

"Rogue Continuum"
A bit Crappy.
You can upgrade your chars and their abilitys.
Upgrading a char is sometimes worth it, upgrading an ability on the other hand is unbalanced and you maybe don't notice it.
Example: Upgrade one skill, so it lasts for longer... 5.0 sec > 5.1 sec

"Rogue Legacy"
Build a castle to get passive buffs and unlock classes.
Collect new equipment and new abilities for your future runs.
This game is "Upgrade-after-death-galore".

"Rogue Shooter"
Uhm... you can unlock things by playing the game and spent intel on Stats... I don't know much more.

"Runers"
Oh dear... this is also upgrade-galore in a complicated way.
You can form spells by melting 2 or 3 runes together.
To do this, you need a rare (for 2 runes) or a very rare (for 3 runes) item.
BUT!!!
Once you used that item to form 2 runes to make one specific spell, you don't need the rare item for this spell in your future runs.
There are many... MANY spells and the run can get fairly creative, when you don't need this rare item for some spells anymore

"Tower Of Guns"
You can unlock new guns and abilities... that's it, I'm not a big fan of this game but it has perma-unlockables.

"Vagante"
You can unlock perks and can use one of them to make your next run SLIGHTLY different.
It's not much but it's there.

"Vertical Drop Heroes HD"
Uh... long time not played.
But I know, after a run (and after a death) you can spent some kind of currency to make your char stronger in future runs.

"Void Raiders"
As much as I like this game, the upgrade-system is kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
You level up your chars for future runs (10 levels per char, 3 chars available) but it's rather fast capped out.
So they can have neat perks and all, but it would be better without such a system and starting with the perks.
Also, you can spent rare currency to upgrade your attack, ability and... I think health for each of your chars.

"Zombie Party"
Collect money and spent it after a run to upgrade your chars.
And it's a really fun game overall.
You can also unlock more chars, but the difference is minimal.
Everyone just has another starting-weapon.

Excuse my crappy english and the vague description on some games, I played some of them a long time ago. ^^"

So? I mean maybe it's not as hard core as the others but it's definitely still got rogue like elements. And besides you don't keep your money unless you find a chest to store it in, so you don't have to keep your money.

Yeah, but I wouldn't count it as permanent upgrades between every run. ^^
Since the game lacks everything in terms of stats, characters and equipment, there is absolutely zero permanent upgrade system to begin with.
The money is just spent at the stores, so it's more like the donnation-machine from "The Binding Of Isaac" and it isn't permanent.

Have you ever heard of Cavern Kings? I personally haven't tried it but it even says in it's description that it's inspired by Risk of Rain. I've had it on my wishlist for a while but it seems to be stuck in early access at the moment with no recent major updates.

I also can't decide if I should buy it. ^^
But I know why people say it's like "Risk Of Rain"... cause the item-system looks like an exact copy.
The rest is completely different.

This is a nice list of games. Keep them coming! (if possible xD)
20XX looks great, was a big fan of megaman back when i was a child.
Crypt of the Necrodancer looks super fun so might grab that too!
Cavern Kings looks super promising as well :D

Yeah, "20XX" is a really fun Megaman-Roguelike. :)
The only thing that annoyed me a bit is the enemy-spam, but the movement is very precise and funt.
And "Crypt Of The Necrodancer" is a brillant rhytm-game... they are always fun!
Combined with roguelike-elements and the possibility to add your own music makes it outstanding. :D
Can't say much about "Cavern Kings", just watched a Let's Play of it and it seems pretty hectic... and I'm not a fan of that. ^^"

Oh I also forgot: "Caveblazers".
The coins you earn can be spent on several things in one run, or when you die, it fills up some kind of experience-bar and everytime it gets full, you unlock cloth for your char or specific perks.
Billy Blaze Jan 20, 2017 @ 9:11am
And 3 (EDIT: 4)... (5?) more that I not sorted into my "Roguelike"-section. ^^

"Heart&Slash"
A dungeon-brawler with an excelent combat-system and while doing specific things in your runs, you unlock more things for your future runs.

"The Madness Of Little Emma"
It's the same as "The Binding Of Isaac", if it's a side-view and not top-down.
As far as I remember, you unlock other items while playing this game, but don't quote me on that... didn't played much of it.

"Unloved"
Seems clunky, but is an excelent first-person-roguelike.
The enemy-spawn can be a bit unforgiving.
It is also a multiplayer-game, but it's also not that hard to beat levels solo.
The most important thing > very good perma-progression.

"Killing Room"
A very VERY weird first-person roguelike... that's more like a gameshow.
You find cards that give you buffs and other things for your run, but you can also find cards that gives you permanent buffs for future runs.

EDIT:
"Neon Chrome"
After a run, you can spent money to maker your char stronger in future runs.
Also, a really good roguelike, but a bit hard... sometimes, it seems like you really need these upgrades.

Nobody has said anything about Nuclear Throne? :(

I thought he's looking for "death progression", so "Nuclear Throne" doesn't do much more than adding more chars.
But sure, such a thing can count as well. ^^
