How to run the game in a modern computer ?

Since many years I want to play this game, I tried on the EA laucher in the past but nothing worked even when fixes found online.

So I jumped for the steam version to try again, same ♥♥♥♥.

I really don't know what to do more, maybe I didn't try everything, but when I saw everyone enjoying the game I'm saying there is hope.

My trouble is when I launch the game I got black screen and the game close from himself, It is the same issue than the EA Version I tried before, and it was on a different computer.

My config, if it's important:
CPU Ryzen 5 7500F
GPU Radeon RX 7900GRE
32Gb RAM
Installed on a NVME SSD

EDIT: My game work now, I just did one simple thing, installing the game where the windows drive is.

I've read a big amount of the topics in steam about the game, I've finally find a solution to run the game: Launch it in 98 Windows Compatibility mode.

But, can't change any resolution option, my game is stuck at 720p or something like that, it's ugly asf and I've got a lot of lag input (idk if it's really because of the bad resolution)

I tried my base resolution: 1440p, don't work, 1080p too.
I'm not touching at the refresh rate I let him at 60hz.

Hello my friend !

You can edit the resolution on :
- Go to "C:\Users\{YourUser}\Documents\My Games\The Saboteur™\SaveGames"
- Open "config.ini"
- Edit Value ScreenWidth & ScreenHeight (ex : ScreenWidth 1920 & ScreenHeight 1080)

But, i don't have a solution for your black screen :/

no issues running this game through 7.06 Proton (i'm on Linux Ubuntu). once i adjusted the ini file and it's important to keep the refresh rate to 60hz or the settings won't be accepted and the default settings will play instead. After that i got into the game and started playing.

The arcade like driving and map is not the best and the early race was a piece of pee, overtook half the grid in the opening corners, overtook a few more cars later on while at the same time learning the track. after the first lap i managed to reach 1st very quickly on the second lap. all in all it's not a lot of difference from Mafia I to be honest in the opening hour of this game.

This doesn't work with Windows 98 compatibility to get the game to boot (mine crashes on launch otherwise). But 98 compatibility seems to override any video settings to run the game in 800x600.

Perhaps it's a RAM thing? My rig is totally different from yours, except I too have 32GB RAM.

Perhaps it's a RAM thing? My rig is totally different from yours, except I too have 32GB RAM.

First time I saw that is a ram thing idk
With my old computer It was same issue with far more worst setup and 16gb of ram

Need to find something to run it without the compatibility mode

Just tried the Fallback patch that I already tried with my EA version of the version back in the day, it's like before I launch the game in W98 comp' mode, game launch black screen and game shut down

I've been looking around for days trying to solve this. And it's all good thanks to your edit. I'm actually REALLY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MAD that THIS was the problem all along. But thanks a lot, you're a saviour!

the game does not work on processors with more than 4 cores, you need to download cpu fix, it helped me. just google "fix for the saboteur on a modern pc". I downloaded it from playground.ru

I don't know about the EA version, but I think the problem is the same
