Opening doors quietly?

I'm pretty sure there was a quieter way for opening doors than kicking it down but I don't see the option anymore. Is it a specific class action ? I think I tried opening them with every class but I only see "kick door". Obviously it makes a lot of noise and attracts enemies.

With the Stealth class you can open doors.

Well the game is called Doorkickers, not Door-openers.

How the door is opened seems to be positional. If you're stacked up beside a door (not in front of it) your trooper will open the door. They won't kick from the side of the door. The door option icon should appear at any reasonable space around the side of the door. This is a crucial tactic as you always need to keep the kicking trooper out of the line of sight of any enemies in the room, because they'll have their weapon down during the door manipulation.

I always carry a silenced pistol and switch to it when I have to open a door quietly. Yes, it is unrealistic.

No, troopers always kick unless they have a stealth weapon, it diesn't matter where you are relative to the door.
