Wow, never knew that!
Assault shooting is the most important skill for close combat
Marksmanship for long range.
So I think it makes sense to make your troopers with high Assault shooting skill the pointman/breacher class
And high marksman skill is best for Assault.
Field skill is less important for me, if you want a door to open quickly you use breaches or a hammer. The time to install a breach doesnt really matter.
Anyway, I dont realize a big difference, between my troopers. Those skills seem to have not really a big impact on the gameplay. But I woud like to see some serious testing on this.
Why would anyone use a pointman when you've unlocked Assault? The way I go is in pairs now (1 assault, 1 breacher). 2 sets when I have 4 guys. Etc etc.
