LOL, as a developer I'd say no (and the question comes up sometimes).

We got the idea for Door Kickers back in May 2011, before we knew of Frozen Synapse (it was not released, but I think it might have been in some form of Early Access). We sat on the idea a lil bit as we were working for EA, Ubisoft, etc but then decided to act on it.

In the meantime we found out Frozen Synapse, which I personally LOVE and played a lot. Obviously we benefited from the experience of seeing their game, but Door Kickers is quite different in mechanics and basic concepts, and plays very differently.

I'd say if you want to call it a ripoff it should be called a ripoff of the planning mode of Original Rainbow Six :p
If it's anything like FS I'll buy it asap :) Cheers.

No, I'd say its quite different from FS, I'd say Breach & Clear is more close due to the rigid "plan 5 seconds of action, wait and see results".

Door Kickers lets you pause and plan on the fly, play in real time, and is a lil bit more random and fuzzy "all hell breaks loose, try to adapt" in feeling. Chaos of Combat. Frozen Synapse is a bit like a precision chess game with endless possibilities.

But if you're keen to get the game, this might be a good deal:

They're both great games DK isn't a rip off of FS.

Two different games. One is turn-based control based on timed actions, this one is pausable real-time. There is a much finer degree of control over individuals in Door Kickers, Frozen Synapse matches are almost half-guesses sometimes and if after 1 second you realize your guy ran into a bad spot you just have to watch it play out badly for 9 more seconds. Door Kickers you can adjust plans on the fly paused or real-time. Also there is kit customization in Door Kickers, Frozen Synapse has fixed loadouts for a few types of vatforms, assault rifle, shotgun, grenade launcher, rocket, sniper. I much prefer Door Kickers over Frozen Synapse on control system alone, that and the gameplay feels better to me. Frozen Synapse wins on multiplayer and destructible environments but it's more of a hassle to play, you can't get in and have your units do what you want them to quite do in Frozen Synapse.

I miss the planning stages from R6 :(

I find DK to be a far more casual game with some unforgiving elements that can quite often be changed when you notice your mistake, and the AI mostly don't know you're there to start with - playing one move ahead is possible and usually ok to do.

FS has been, for myself, about precision and control, you're accounting for every "what-if", like chess - however, like chess, planning 2-3 or more moves ahead and trying to consider every possibility gives you the edge.

I'm not saying DK doesn't/wouldn't benefit from thinking several moves ahead, but there's a pause and delete button on DK that can be used at will :D
