- Pointmen can shoot after kicking a door faster than any other class.
- Breach guys are awesome at close range.
- Stealth are quite similar to Assault but the silenced weapons come in handy sometimes.
- Shield guys are a must against enemies with machineguns.
Breachers (even with silenced shotgun) open doors in no time.
Stealth are essential expecially in hostage execution maps.
Player could even challenge himself choosing to beat all maps with a pointman armed with a revolver...
Challenge accepted. Give me some days and I'll upload the video.
Obviously, no mods, vanilla game.
Ok.
I've finished a handful of missions with just a pistol without using any special gear. It's fun.
Ok, no grenades...
Now, back on-topic:
- Pointmen are usually not needed. The only benefit is a tiny speed boost. Everyone can use a pistol.
- (Upgraded) Shield can be handy in certain situations where there are limited number of entry points.
- Breachers benefit from maneuverability. They can shoot very fast after opening a door. They can also open locked doors faster than any other class. They are risky to use in hostage situations and they are more or less useless outside of tight areas.
- Stealth is exactly like assaulter, except that their weapons are marginally less effective.
I tend to find my pointmen outshining the other classes in smaller maps.
Breachers can shotgun doors open, which is the fastest breaching method for locked doors by far. Give a Breacher a JCS and he's an unstoppable force of destruction, casually firing the JCS fairly quickly and blowing away Juggernauts and Orvilles in either one blast or two. The spread of the JCS is also pretty good, as it can kill multiple tangoes in one blast. The Six-12-SD is completely silent when breaching doors despite how loud the circle is.
Stealth class is useful if you're going for one-man-army, using distraction tactics, or on maps where the hostage is executed once the Terrorists hear gunfire(Tugboat at Sea, for example). "Sound execution" Missions are unfortunately really rare, and there's only a handful I remember. Its safe to assume that on the majority of Hostage missions, going loud is a valid tactic. Most of the Executioners only execute when they spot you or when time runs out, and if they're in "Execution Mode" they beeline straight for the hostage... Without even trying to shoot you first, no matter how far away they are from the nearest hostage. "Distraction Tactics" exploit the AI: The entire map is alerted to gunfire, and the AI will always look in the direction of whatever alerted them. You could have one trooper fire an unsilenced gun and cause the AI to turn their backs around, allowing another Trooper to flank around and shoot them with a silenced gun.
If you're going to One-Man-Army Key Witness Escort Duty or The Bargain Chips, then a suppressed P90 is absolutely essential to prevent your Troopers from opening fire too early and getting slaughtered. Since the P90 is silenced, both maps are wide open, and the tangoes are scattered, they won't be looking in your direction and you'll be able to sneak around until you get into position.
Shields are useful but slow. Theres a shield that has 95% protection against pistols and SMGs, and it's better protection than Extended Armor since you can survive several Nameless Thugs blasting away at you and not get scratched. Don't try that shield against rifles, though. If you do use a shield, you have to have another Troopers firing over his head, which requires lots of micromanagement because shields are usually slower than Troopers.
If someone is going to pull it off then he's either extremely lucky or insanely talented.
Actually, after 32 tentatives, I can kill the 90% of the tangos. Still haven't killed the last 2 grenadiers.
In the next hour I'll post the best failed attempt.
Still trying to win the challenge.
