Unfortunately, this is not the case with Ever Crisis, where the gacha system invades the entire game whether you like it or not.
In Ever Crisis, if you take away the gacha part, the entire game system has to be reformed (where to get weapons, how to raise them, and all that). In Genshin, for example, if you remove the gachapon, the core of the game remains exactly the same (a big open world rpg game).
What most people don't understand is that if you play just for the rewards, for that kick, you're not going to last long. Sooner or later you're going to get tired of it because you don't like the game, as a game.
Ever Crisis has the same problems that Opera Omnia and Brave Exvius have: story fragmented into mini episodes that contribute nothing just to see numbers and colors while the characters attack in battles against two or three enemies. It takes away a lot of pace from the game and you spend more time in the menu than playing. It would have been different to make the game like the original FFVII, with remastered graphics, but with a submenu where you access the gacha (yes, open world and all that, not through the menu).
But yes, Square-Enix again.
- Cool theme costumes and weapons
- Iconic scenes from original FFVII
- The modern (combat) and old aesthetic (story and dungeons)
- The combat reminds me of FFXIII
- The music is awesome
I agree with game bombs you all the time with "ads" like "level your weapon", "buy crystals", "receive double bonus", but if you ignore it you end with a decent gameplay with tons of activities. Yes, it can be played automatic, but you can make better builds and combos.
I would love to see the an FFVII remake in this "old" aesthetic is just amazing.
Also, I still have some confidence in Shinra, Inc., I mean Square Enix.
