Honestly, I think more companies would do it if they didn't wait until they had so little money that they have to declare bankruptcy as soon as they announce EoS. If you put some cash into retrofitting these games into an offline experience, you can turn the whale system into a long tail. Doesn't look as good for each quarter, but would bring in a bit of money to smooth over unexpected shortfalls. Though, of course, that assumes that companies even care about staying in business, and not just making as much money as quickly as possible, and then ripping out the copper when they have to try again.
I am aware that you can buy the OG Final Fantasy, as well as Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrate and Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII on Steam.
But the third game "Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier" would be worth it because it's new.
(It would also be great if Square Enix were able to revive Mobius Final Fantasy. I'm just saying.)
FF7EC is the first mobile game to get a Steam release. FF7EC obtained more downloads in a month than DFFOO in its first 3 years.
Applibot has a Nier game that is still going.
Lastly, canning this game before part 3 of FF7 trilogy with an estimated release date of 2027 is moronic at best.
Best guess is this game will last until 2030
It's a Gatcha, it's there to be a cash void for squeenix. It'll last as long as the cash flow.
SE actually did that with Final Fantasy Dimensions 2. It sucks they haven't followed suit with their other defunct gachas
I thought that Mobius Final Fantasy was the first mobile game that was also released on Steam.
It didn't stop them from shutting down the First SOLDIER though, lol.
