For newbies who don't know how to do it *at all*, from the mobile app:
Settings > Link Data > Log into square enix account and make sure FFVEC is linked to your SqEnix account, it will show your gems and you can use that as a reference for how current the backup is.
Then, from the square enix bridge, link your steam account, which will just pull up steam and have you log in if you haven't already done so before.
Finally, using the steam version of the game, with the overlay enabled so it populates the web browser, start the game, clear any account you created accidentally, and then click data link, and log in using the same square enix account you just linked your data to. Compare your player ID from the mobile game to the steam game to verify you got the right account migrated.
Profit.
i've gone to the app, hit link data, tied my SE account to my email address
gone to steam, opened the game, hit link data - and all it wants to do is create a backup of the account that's been created in the steam version, which it won't do because my email is linked to the account on my app...what am i doing wrong
So if you started a new game, it won't work.
On your phone, create a SquareEnix account (menu, link data)
All you need to do on PC is to launch the game and at the Title Screen , there is a menu on the top right corner . Delete your datas, then link your account firstly created.
