How to Link Data for Gmail Account Users
Here is a quick guide for people having issues with linking their gmail account to the Steam version for the data link.

What you need to do is link up your Square Enix Account/Bridge to your Steam account.

To do this, login on the Square Enix page and then link your Steam account to that login.

Here is the link for US users: https://membership.square-enix.com/account_links

If it says your steam account is already linked for any reason, then you are already good to go and just need to follow the last section below. If not, youll want to find "Steam" under "Link New Account" section. From there, you'll login and it'll link up your Steam account to your Square account.

Then when you are in the game and selecting what option to use for the data link login, select Steam. It should show the current gems you have and simply continue from there and you are good to go.

Doesn't work. If I go to Link data at the top right, there is only a short connecting and then nothing happens. I am not asked even though I have linked my Steam account at Square

I posted this in another thread but it seems like it would be a helpful addition here.

Enable the steam overlay, the game wants to open the square enix bridge using the steam browser and it doesn't explicity tell you that, so you'll feel like spamming the link data button isn't doing anything. If you've been spamming it, and then enable the overlay, it will load every single instance it has tried to open of the steam browser over your game and you'll have to manually close each one of those instances before you can click through to the try to link data one last time, at which point it will work as intended.

For newbies who don't know how to do it *at all*, from the mobile app:
Settings > Link Data > Log into square enix account and make sure FFVEC is linked to your SqEnix account, it will show your gems and you can use that as a reference for how current the backup is.

Then, from the square enix bridge, link your steam account, which will just pull up steam and have you log in if you haven't already done so before.

Finally, using the steam version of the game, with the overlay enabled so it populates the web browser, start the game, clear any account you created accidentally, and then click data link, and log in using the same square enix account you just linked your data to. Compare your player ID from the mobile game to the steam game to verify you got the right account migrated.

Profit.

Ive been playing on bluestacks since launch does anyone know how to get my account on steam? on bluestacks is linked to my gmail but once i tryed to link it to my phone and it gives me an error saying the account is linked to another device.. so i dont know what to do i tryed the game on steam and is super fluid compared to phone or bluestacks so i want to play it here. Did another try and im getting an error

A backup cannot be created. Backup save data for a different device is already associated with this account.

Please use a different account.

Evanon, if the game is linked on bluestacks, check square enix bridge and make sure that your square enix account is linked to the google account on bluestacks. If it is, using that same square enix account, log in to steam from the bridge. Enable your steam overlay (it's been an issue, believe me) and when you first log into the game, click data link. It will pull up the square enix bridge and you'll log into your square enix account. Note your player ID and compare it to your mobile version's ID. If it matches, you're good to go.

Logging in on a mobile device would just mean logging into the same gmail account on the other mobile device. I've had to change phones since the game launched, and I got that error when I was trying to use a different gmail account but still logged into the bridge using the original gmail account on the old phone. If you're just trying to use the steam version of the game, there shouldn't be any issues with different devices (or accounts) trying to log into the same game, as long as your steam account is linked properly.

If you are starting fresh on Steam, you don't have to do anything.
