Fun gachas. Basically retells the story of Crisis Core + OG FF7 as well as a new story. All characters are "free" but weapons and outfits are what you pull on. Its a nice way to spend 20-30 minutes a day if you like FF7. I play it on my Steam Deck too but use purely touch screen. Also super easy to stay free to play unless you're super tempted by the skins.

Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is a nostalgic treat wrapped in stunning modern graphics. As a long-time FFVII fan, diving back into the world of Midgar and beyond with this visual overhaul feels like reliving the magic for the first time. The character models, animations, and effects are all top-notch, and it’s clear a lot of love was poured into this project.

Yes, it’s a gacha game—but honestly, I’ve been playing and thoroughly enjoying it without spending a dime. The free-to-play experience is generous enough that you can progress and have fun without feeling pressured to pay.

My only real gripe is that I wish the game were a bit more “playable” in the traditional sense. Most of the gameplay is a linear sequence of cutscenes and battles. It would be amazing to have more exploration or interactive elements to make the world feel more alive.

Still, for fans of FFVII, this is an easy recommendation. Whether you’re here for the nostalgia, the updated look, or just want more time with your favorite characters, Ever Crisis delivers.

I didn't know exactly how to rate this. But let me say this first. I have NEVER played a game in the Final Fantasy franchise (although, I would love to get into it). Me, being the broke guy I am, saw this labeled as "Free". I was not expecting it, however, to be a gacha game. If you just want to enjoy a Final Fantasy VII installment, this game is NOT FOR YOU. If you like or are addicted to gachas (like myself), this game is NOT FOR YOU. So many other games have done the gacha gameplay loop way better than this game has. Limbus Company, Reverse: 1999, and Sword of Convallaria have done the system alright or really well. Perhaps it was the transition that did it in, but this game is not the best it could be... at least we got to see Aerith in a beach outfit...
