[Fix] Game controller not recognised (if you have a G13/tartarus/orbweaver)
Hi,

So I have the GOG edition of Freedom Planet, but I encountered the same problem as some of you here so I assume this also applies to the Steam release.

My game controller (a wireless elecom gamepad) was working just fine, until I got a Razer Tartarus gameboard. Freedom Planet would no longer recognise my game controller! It seems that Freedom Planet will only recognise the first controller that it detects, and this was now my tartarus. I tried setting the "default controller for legacy applications" setting in Windows but it made no difference at all. This issue will also affect people with the Logitech G13.

This is how I fixed it - for windows 7:
*** IMPORTANT *** If you use the game controller button/joystick emulation feature of your Tartarus/Orbweaver/G13, you cannot use this fix as it disables that feature. This is the feature that allows you to set keys on your gameboard to act as joystick axis or joystick buttons.

  1. Make sure your game controller and gameboard are both connected.
  2. Go into Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager
  3. Expand the category "Human Interface Devices"
  4. Look for "HID-compliant game controller". You should see 2 of these. One will represent your game controller and the other represents the controller emulation of your game board.
  5. Select the first "HID-compliant game controller". Right click on it and click "Disable", and confirm you want to disable it.
  6. Now open Start -> Devices and Printers, find your game controller, right click on it and choose "Game controller settings".
  7. If your controller is shown in the list here and your G13/tartarus is missing - great. You are ready to play Freedom Planet, otherwise continue
  8. Go back to Device Manager, re-enable the "HID-compliant game controller" by right clicking and choosing Enable. Then try disabling the second one.
  9. Check your game controller settings again.

To put things back to how they were, just re-enable the device you disabled. I hope this helps somebody!
