Bad campaign in these games

I played the first campaign, and it was a shocking reminder at how bad these red alert and c&c campaigns often are. Here was my experience:

The very first map you are giving units which you have to use in large map, and the map is sort of designed like a spiral maze. So lots of walking.

Its also setup to be hard to keep your units, but the game sends you reinforcements if you lose too many units (o god, kill me now).

Save button was greyed out.

After I got to the center'ish of the map I needed to keep three scientist alive. I went the wrong way and get them killed.... well GJ, I just wasted 20-30 minutes in the most boring type of campaign mission. One mistake and I now need to go do the entire boring mission again?

Ive played a lot of red alert games in the past 15 years. But it seems EA (and even westwood) really had a knack at making some un-interesting and needlessly long campaign missions, often with ultra slow units (engineers in the older games) that walked beyond slow yet needed to move vast distances on the map.

The Russian campaign is fine, beat all 4 and had fun. Yuriko one was weird and had a dumb plot but still good to test something new plus we haven't got a c&c with indoor missions for a long time.

Allies missions were horrendous. The first one was okay because we get to test out that new harbinger gunships so that kinda saved it. Mission 2 was meh and 3 was silly. After beating that random brown asian chick ho came out of nowhere we got the most predictable plot twist betrayal by that bald ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ in a supposedly gotcha epic you've been betrayed scene which we all can smell from a mile away.

I didn't even finish the first Japan mission because I lost interest. All I remember was Kenji was there and we were fighting the Soviet union.

I have to agree that this first mission was atrociously tedious, boring and a very bad way to start the Campaign which was generally very lacklustre. Not worth playing through imo.

It seems more like a tutorial on how to micro manage RTS units, the earlier parts of the mission at least. The escape section where you need to make a desperate retreat while being bombarded by those new artillery was a nightmare yeah, I think it was meant to put you in a dire situation and you barely escape.
