9950 X3D Cores Not Parking Correctly
Hi,
The cores don't park as they are meant to to utilise the X3D features. The applications CCD, #1, stays active instead of sleeping and gaming CCD,#0, is also active.

I only have this issue one 1 other game everything else seems to function correctly.
I'm not sure what to do about it, anyone else have this CPU and experience this?

Are you running the latest AMD chipset drivers? https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/chipsets/am5/x870.html

Maybe try going into device manager to doublecheck the events for the 3D-Vcache performance optimizer and make sure it's running and didn't encounter an error in starting. Or is it running as a service when you check task manager? Similar to https://community.amd.com/t5/pc-processors/amd-3d-v-cache-performance-optimizer-amp-amd-ppm-provisioning/td-p/592151

Did you make a CPU swap to the 9950X3D from another CPU, or has the motherboard always been paired with the 9950X3D? I know in the past swapping those dual-ccd X3D chips caused occasional issues for core parking.
Yes I swapped from the 7800x3d.
I have an X670e Aorus Pro X board, with the latest bios and up-to-date drivers.

Doing a windows re-install today to see if that fixes it. I don't expect it to though as some games perform correctly and some don't so I suspect it is in reality how games are coded.

Yea I'm honestly not sure how the logic is determined for AMDs V-cache and PPM driver now, other than being able to manually set a frequency vs. cache preference in BIOS for once cores are parked. Maybe it's worth reaching out to AMD and asking too if reinstalling Windows doesn't fix it, but I think some games will use all cores if there is benefit determined by the driver/AMD. Always seemed too much like a black box to me and hard to troubleshoot.
I couldn't remember exactly where I heard this when the 9950X3D first came, but I found it again. They mention some of the current factors for core parking behavior, but the additional program compatibility list could always be an unknown especially for an early access game.

Yeah I here you. Thanks for the video and your input. The game functions well enough with this CPU along side my 4090, I would like it to run on graphics settings ultra perfectly but of course this is an early access pre-alpha game. Hopefully they increase performance without reducing the beauty too much, I do find currently I get input lag especially with my mouse clicks which is strange.
I found out what is causing it. After reinstalling windows I told game bar to recognise gzw to be recognised as a game. It it functions correctly.

This is a known issue with Windows. AMD built the scheduler right into Linux kernel. The problem is, you can't do that with Windows kernel, because it is not open source. On Windows, you need to run Xbox Game Bar for AMD dual CCD or more CCDs CPUs. When Game Bar detects you are playing a video game, it parks the right cores, given that you don't have any other applications or tabs running on secondary displays that can further utilize the CPU, in the case that those applications are not static on the screen. OP most definitely disabled Game Bar, so Windows scheduler gets confused. Either way, this is pointless. Can't you simply manually set affinity yourself via task manager for processes? Just right click the game, set affinity, and select all of the threads you want the game to use.

Dude, just set affinity yourself for the game. Select all of the threads you want the game to use. It's better than using Game Bar

Damn I thought the game bar requirement went away with the new 7.X chipset drivers. Guess AMD still relies on it for some stuff.

You'd have to give me a tute, i have no idea what you mean

In taskmanger, go to the the details pane and then find the exe file for the game. Right click and set affinity, done (I assume this is what they meant).

Correct. You'd have to first identify which software threads are from CCD 0 though. I'm assuming, the X3D memory cores are the first cores.
Edit: Considering CCD 0 has the X3D memory cores, yeah. Guaranteed the first cores are the X3D cores. And since the CPU is multithreaded, the first two threads would include all of the instruction sets of the first core.
Update the bios, latest chipset drivers do nothing without updated microcode.
I have a 9950X3D and i see no measurable differences between parking the cores and letting it use all of them
