I've had multiple crashes now where I've loaded the game back up and all gear lost. Depends on the circumstances of crashing - seems to be around 70% chance to lose all gear equipped if you crash during a heli ride (based on my personal experience so far). I have also had it happen to me in general game crashes when in base or out doing missions, but this is rarer...
Quests resetting seems only to happen when crashing during a heli ride, but just as frustrating - especially if you've done quest lines such as hazardous treasures from rooms being open already and don't have the key.
Nah, there are times you crash, then reopen the game, your character has his kit, you join the same Operation and the same server region, spawn in base camp with your gear that you've been running with for an hour or more, then get an error about "Saving player persistence" and it wipes everything you had for hours, your active tasks, and other things.
Not only with that crash unfortunately. Also with some non-error code crashes too.
From my own playtime (nearly 100 hours) I've only had the gear wipe from a retrieval crash. I've had my quests wipe once from the heli crash, but I still had my equipment. The worst one and it seems to affect you at the beginning or not at all is the invisible head/missing inventory glitch. However the hotfixes seem to have put a pretty good dent in the amount of invisible pmcs out there.
Seems like you've had a lucky time with it. I had been too until today where I've had at least 12 crashes causing quest reset and loss of gear.
Also as you go to more areas you will find nicer gear on the bots, nicer gun builds with nicer optics and such, which means you can take some of that home to use later.
