What's the point of having different factions?

What's the point of having different factions and not being able to leave them so easily? At Foxhole(PCgame) it makes sense to stay on one team because otherwise you could sabotage the opposing team, but here? You can't sabotage anything here anyway, so what's the point of the factions anyway?


In Arma 2 Wasteland this also made sense because bases were built there. Ammunition and vehicles have been stored in the base for friendly players.

so, What's the point of having different factions in this game?
and the big question, why can't you change the faction so easily? Will factions be expanded, will more functions be added?

you could already sabotage by switching factions to look at the map and see where players are.

At some point, whether it's going to be EA or the full release, there's going to be dynamic tasks that competing factions will compete against each other to complete. Tasks that puts factions against eachother; a faction completing said tasks will negatively impact the other factions while it benefits their own. There's already a task in the game where players have to go into an enemy Main Base to steal intel, I'd imagine there will be objective based tasks similar to this.

There's also going to be dynamic map control with various FOBs around the map that factions can capture and hold. Opposing factions can raid enemy held FOBs at any given time to take that FOBs from another faction. There's not much detail how FOBs benefit factions, but we could take some guesses. Obviously a different spawn point where players can simply go out on foot instead of taking a helo as well as using this FOB to land at for extractions. Shorter travel times via helo, in comparison to the Main Base. I'd imagine that as the loot pool increases in the game, it would benefit to hold X FOB due to the loot that may be in the nearby area.

This is just my opinion, but with FOBs in mind, I would imagine that players will have to go out loot materials and resources for FOB upgrades as well for maintaining the base, so this mechanic will incentivIse players to fight over materials for their faction controlled FOBs.

It will make sense with future updates, remember this game is still in alpha stages. This is not an early access beta, it's and early access alpha. I'm loving every minute and can't wait to see all the updates

No, but another dude said you can sabatoge other factions by leaving your faction and join another to see where people are on the map. But I am pretty sure in order to change factions, you have to restart your character. Seems like a lot of effort just to see where players will be for a few minutes.

Not only he needs to wipe his char... but then he will "look" at one server, wipe again to get back to his normal faction and is in a different server XD. And I dont mind if he knows on which POI on the map I am - come and try to get me haha

that was me and no. i didnt say you CAN. i said you COULD if it where easier to change factions at any time.
