I just logged in, spent 10 minutes getting gear ready and waiting for and using helicopter. Then 30 seconds after getting off the helicopter, I get one shot in the chest through a bush while wearing armour. Don't even get to pull the trigger. I was crouching and in a bush and the guy was 30m away. If you look at AI they instantly all know where you are, it feels terrible.

These are the same people who made popular mobile titles like DEAD TRIGGER 2 and SHADOWGUN LEGENDS... Don't expect too much from these guys :steamlaughcry:

Dunno what's going on today, but I suddenly keep getting one tapped. Got one tapped twice by enemies who I didn't even know were there. And this is on PvE, so it's not other players.

First time since the game came out that I experience this.

Use cover and don’t fight out in the open. Also shoot head and neck area!
sometimes its just dumb. Thug takes 10 rounds from M4. But can one tap you.
Also thugs with 9mm are more painful than one with aks. They shoot fast, precise and in 9/10 cases, make you bleed. And occasionally one tap.

I get that 9mm has less kickback and its usaually "faster". But makes no sense if i have full armor. That 9mm causes more dmg than dude with ak

Yeah, enemy health is all over the place. I've also noticed that I sometimes need to dump most of a mag on an enemy before they go down. And then they often have buddies shooting at you too.

It's not CS, man. Think about it. My friend and I played pve for about 6 hours yesterday evening, we were not killed a single time, although I received several wounds each time. Wooden walls or bushes are poor cover, they won't hold a bullet. Concrete walls, steel sheets and earth are your main protection. Try to always keep to the shelter, walk along the wall, instead of doing it on the road, if you need to overcome an open area, take a good look around and then do it quickly to the next shelter, get a friend. Even if there are two of you, your chances of survival will increase by a lot. Try to shoot at the head, they usually die with one hit.

Always wear armor and helmet, it saves your life. I got shot in the head yesterday, but the helmet protected me. I'd be dead without him. Wounds to your arms and legs won't kill you right away, the rest will be protected by a vest, the only place they can kill you is your neck and face, but it's really a 10% chance that they will get there.

You'll probably get shot in the arm or in the stomach, but it won't kill you.
If you couldn't kill the enemy right away, don't play hero (you'll die), retreat to cover and try again. You don't have to stand and shoot at full height, like you're in a duel in the wild west. If it's more convenient for you, buy an ACOG sight from a dealer, it will help you make targeted kills from a long distance when bots won't even notice, but then be careful in close combat.

Can you please point me to where I said that it's CS?

I play tactical, I always wear armor, I retreat when I'm obviously outgunned. I don't "stand and shoot at full height". I use sights on all my weapons.

Anything else you want to add or are you done assuming that I'm an idiot who doesn't know how to play a tactical shooter, a genre I've been playing for 15 years?

The AI is behaving inconsistently. Read my post again. I was playing fine solo for the last two days. Yesterday I cleared Ban Pa three times on my own, no issue. You have to take it slow and be very careful, but it's doable. Today I died three times in a row in Ban Pa. Twice from enemies who I couldn't even see. Third time from an enemy 100m away who one tapped me from 100m in the chest, despite me wearing armor. Went back a 4th time and there was another guy hiding behind a shed near India 1 while enemies were shooting at him. I helped him out, we chatted a bit and he told me that his squadmate just got gunned down and that they were having trouble clearing the place. So clearly it's not just me.

Something has changed. Either enemies got a stealth buff, or there's some server shenanigans or something on. ♥♥♥♥ wasn't this hard yesterday. I had an easier time at the shooting range and resort yesterday than I did at Ban Pa today.

At first you say that you have big problems with survival, now that you are a veteran of tactical games and one man army, but then there is no problem. Maybe you got on the server with a bad ping, I've had it a few times. AI has nothing to do with it

For new players:

When moving in open terrain, use concealment wherever possible, that means tall grass or thick bushes. Try to stay in birms or ditches, so you can dive if you start taking fire.

If you're expecting to engage enemies, be sure to know your nearest piece of solid cover.
Solid cover isn't plywood, car doors, bushes or tent canvas, but brickwork, thick concrete walls, engine blocks or steel barriers.

Use the middle mouse button to look around while moving forward. Always pie corners before crossing alleyways or doorways.

It helps to have a buddy watch your back or opposite sides when moving through urban territory.

If you must play by yourself, elect to stay on the inside of barriers instead of on the streets, such as yards with tall fences, or straight up buildings.

The only times I've died so far is from ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around.

Make sure your armour is appropriate to stop whatever the enemy is throwing at you. Make sure to never stand sideways if your armour doesn't have side plates, as this is an easy pathway to several vital organs in one line. Make sure your armour is always in top condition, don't rely on damaged armour.

Hope this helps.

To my surprise, this hasn't been my experience with the AI. My buddy and I have pushed all the way to Sapphire and dying in firefights always seemed reasonable to me. I've never felt like I was just wasted due to no fault of my own.

The AI reacts at a reasonable rate and if you kill the first bot that spots you, there's a chance that others will not react and swarm your position. They don't just instantly headshot me unless I'm asking for it by standing completely still out of cover and not returning fire. They seem to react to suppression reasonably and will try to suppress you as well.

Armor makes an incredible difference from what I've noticed. All the different levels of armor in conjunction with engagement range plays a huge role into how I've received wounds. I try engage the AI either at a medium range ~75m or so, or directly point blank if I have to. This seems to be the sweet spot for me as if I do get hit, it's usually nothing more than light bleeding unless I took a hit to the head or I got blasted in the chest by a Mosin.

You're absolutely right. Many people talk about some complicated dishonest bots, but I literally haven't died a single time in these 2 days because of their dishonesty. Either I was dying because it was my fault, or these are those rare moments when I actually got shot in the face 1 out of 10 times. It was an intense fight against 4 opponents in a very unfortunate place, I saw them too late and had to fight.
You may have noticed this too, but often there are very big loud battles with dozens of bursts in settlements, although usually you can quickly kill one or more enemies and move on. But I keep hearing a real war between players and bots. They deliberately arrange a massacre, attract attention to themselves and then talk about dishonest bots, although they did everything to die and it was not as instant as they say. These are long-term shootouts that they engage in for some reason.
Vanta May 3, 2024 @ 4:42am
You have to hit vital shots.

Enemies with armor are harder to take out, and you need heart, lung, headshots to get reliable kills.
JKCatdaddy May 3, 2024 @ 4:43am
Ive got around 25 hours in the game, level like 13 and ive died maybe 4 or 5 times. I have zero problem 1 tapping dudes to the head that are wearing bandanas. Most guys that have armor and helmets take alot more rounds to kill. Know why? Because until you unlock higher traders, youre using ♥♥♥♥ hollow point ammo that is pretty ineffective against level 3 armor and helmets. You can just stand out in the open and tank shots either, you have to play it relletively tactically and safe or youll get wrecked.
