Wasn't looting one of the key elements of the game? That seems kind of important to have a decent sized pool if you're going to put your game out there. Advertising the game as a loot/extraction shooter with no loot would be the same as opening a swimming pool and not filling it with water.
The devs mentioned they don’t want players going out just to loot for their own benefit, but to loot for the greater benefit of their faction.
Essentially they don’t want players going out just to loot items to sell, but to loot materials and resources for their faction. We will see how the loot table evolves as FOBs are implemented.
For many players, including myself, it would be fantastic to go out just to collect loot, especially when we don't have enough money to buy gear. I love looting and believe it should be a core element of the game. Without loot, what would be the motivation in the late game after all the missions are completed? This is especially concerning in PvE mode.
Make sure when you open a crate you wait for a while. It takes a minute to "Search" containers.
I've found sniper rifles, AK's, gun mods, Ifaks, the larger medic bag, and tons of food and water and such. It's also dependant on where you are looting. If you're in the first town outside your base or something, you're going to find rather lackluster loot.
Deeper in to the center you go, the better.
If someone has already searched the crate you have to close it then reopen it again. In some cases the crate will be repopulated with loot after a few seconds but not always.
You absolutely CAN go out and loot though. There's loot out there. It's not JUST meds and food. There's weapon boxes that specifically spawn guns and attachments and scopes and ammo and whatnot. it's just not super prevelant because you're kinda meant to appreciate the good stuff when you DO find it. And if you do any fighting at all you'll be coming home with more gear than you know what to do with.
You just have to find where those boxes are at and loot them. Again, wait when you open a box to let the items spawn inside of it. If you wait for around 5 seconds and nothing appears (And I mean a slow 5 seconds. Like "One-onethousand, two-onethousand, three-onethousand" kinda counting, then it's likely been looted recently. Come back later.
Once you leave the noob zone, the AI carries stronger weapons, use better ammo against you, armor, and acts differently and is generally more difficult.
Yes I know that by now as I found many of the loot boxes myself. But other than gear etc. there isn't much to find yet, no random valuable items yet but that's fine as there wouldn't be much use for these yet.
