You need to Disable IPv6 (it helped me to get through):

1. Use the shortcut, Windows Key + X to open the Control Panel.
2. Open Network and Sharing Center.
3. Click Change Adapter Settings.
4. Right-click your connection and go to Properties.
Select Properties in the drop-down menu after right-clicking your connection.
5. Uncheck the box next to Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) to disable it.
6. Select OK to confirm the change.

Press "OK" to save changes.

Network Error Occured -- That sucks!
“Network Error Occured” occurs so frequently that playing GZW is becoming less and less fun. It sucks when you are sent back to the main menu in the middle of a mission, at best just before successfully completing it.

Could the developers please do their job and at least ensure stable server connections? That's the least you can expect from a computer game in 2024, right?

As for the instability of the servers and the lack of action against cheaters, you could almost be forgiven for thinking that GZW was programmed by the developers of EFT ....

Just tried playing after not playing for about 2 weeks or more and what happens the game hard crashes me back to desktop without even a crash report. Then when I join another server I get kicked out of that right away with error message "online persistent error could not save character progression". How the ♥♥♥♥ am I having more issues now than when I played this when it first came out. There is less people playing now and I have upgraded my GPU since it first came out. All that money they made and they still cant get proper servers. Guess I wont be playing this ♥♥♥♥ till the "big patch" comes out and see if they did anything worth wild or not but I wont hold my breath.

Network issues in Gray Zone Warfare are often client-side and can be resolved with these steps:

  • Manually Change DNS
    • Google: 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
    • Quad9: 9.9.9.9 & 149.112.112.112
    • Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 & 1.0.0.1
    • AdGuard DNS: 94.140.14.14 & 94.140.15.15
    • CleanBrowsing: 185.228.168.9 & 185.228.169.9

  • Disable IPv6
    • Go to your network adapter settings
    • Uncheck IPv6
    • Restart your PC

  • Reboot Modem/Router
    • Turn off your modem/router
    • Wait 15 minutes
    • Turn it back on

  • Configure Windows Firewall
    • Navigate to *Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall*
    • Select *Advanced settings* and highlight *Inbound Rules* in the left panel
    • Select *New Rule*
    • Choose *Program* and click *Next*
    • Click *This Program Path* and then *Browse*
    • Add the following path: `steamapps\common\Gray Zone Warfare\GZW\Binaries\Win64\GZWClientSteam-Win64-Shipping`
    • Click *Open*
    • Allow the connection
    • Check *Domain*, *Private*, and *Public*
    • Name the rule "GZW"
    • Repeat these steps for `steamapps\common\Gray Zone Warfare\GZWClientEAC`

  • Add Exclusions to Antivirus
    • Add exclusions for GZW files in your antivirus software

  • Flush DNS
    • Clear your DNS cache to resolve potential DNS-related issues
