*FIXED* - STEAM NOT RUNNING ERROR

Ever since I downloaded this garbage hotfix this morning, I've been troublshooting ever since. The game won't even launch. "Steam not running" ERROR every single time like clockwork. Worked perfectly before this trash fix. 160-180FPS, no lag, no hiccups, no NOTHING.

As soon as the Hotfix went into place this morning, it loaded up fine i guess the FIRST launch. Once I got into a game, I headed out on a heli and the game just closed to desktop. No error. Came back in for the SECOND launch no issue i guess cause I made it in, but all my gear and tasks were reset, then the game just closed to desktop. No reason.

Went to launch for the THIRD time and got hit w "Steam not running" ERROR and hasnt opened since. I've tried launching several times, using the instructions that were given below the Hotfix notes did absolutely nothing. Just generic quick fixes I already knew wouldn't work, because OBVIOUSLY whatever was done in the Hotfix is preventing the game from launching on Steam..

And I literally can't find anyone else having this problem it seems..

RUN AS ADMIN | (Steam.exe)

DISABLE FSO | (GZWClientSteam-Win64-Shipping.exe)

TURN OFF STEAM OVERLAY | (Steam Settings > In-Game > Enable the Steam Overlay
while in-game - UNCHECK)

OPT OUT OF BETA | (Right-Click GzW in Game Library > Properties > Betas >
Beta Participation - None)

CLEAR STEAM DOWNLOAD CACHE | (Steam Settings > Downloads > Clear Download
Cache - Clear Cache)

VERIFY GAME FILES | (Right-Click GzW in Game Library > Installed Files >
Verify Integrity of Game Files)

ADD GZW AND STEAMAPPS FILE PATH TO INBOUND RULES | (Windows Firewall)

SET GZW TO HIGH-PERFORMANCE | (Windows Settings > System > Display > Graphics >
Add Desktop App - Browse > Add path to: GZWClientSteam-Win64-Shipping.exe |
Select - High Performance)

DISABLE IPv6 | (Control Panel > Network and Internet > Change adapter settings >
From there, Right-Click the Network Adapter your using, Ethernet in my case >
Properties > UNCHECK - Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) in the list)

RESET IP ADDRESS | (Run Command Prompt w/ Admin Privileges) >
Type - "ipconfig /release" (w/o quotes) then hit Enter >
Type - "ipconfig /renew" (w/o quotes) then hit Enter >
Type - "exit" (w/o quotes) then hit Enter

MANUALLY CHANGE DNS SERVERS | (Windows Settings > Network & Internet >
Select Network Adapter your using, Ethernet in my case >
DNS Server Assignment - Edit >
Select Manual at the Top
Under Preferred DNS, Type - 208.67.222.222
Under Alternate DNS, Type - 208.67.220.220
Leave DNS over HTTPS - OFF
Click Save

*NOTE* - Here's a short list of DNS servers to use, including the two used above:
Google : 8.8.8.8 - 8.8.4.4
Quad9 : 9.9.9.9 - 149.112.112.112
OpenDNS : 208.67.222.222 - 208.67.220.220

FLUSH DNS | (Run Command Prompt w/ Admin Privileges) >
Type - "ipconfig /flushdns" (w/o quotes) then hit Enter >
You'll see "Successfully flushed DNS Resolver Cache" as a result
Type - "exit" (w/o quotes) then hit Enter


RESTART PC

After implementing the fixes listed above, you may STILL encounter "Steam is not running" Error at launch, like before.
I say this because it did so for me, and seemed to have no effect.
So I play tested OPERATOR and BF2042 extensively, with no issues, to further confirm the issue is isolated to GzW or possibly even UE5..
After testing the two games, I attempted to launch GzW again, w/ the fixes listed above still ACTIVE. It finally launched into the Main Menu. No error.

So this could've all been for nothing, I still can't pin-point a single fix that had a direct impact on this particular error. But i say FIXED, because these are LITERALLY the steps I took, line for line, I'm just sharing what happened.

you're not alone. Plenty of other people talking about it. I'm experiencing the same issue. Can't open the game at all since yesterday's update.

yeah ♥♥♥♥ this, ive wasted 3 hours of my life trying to get this going... 41 minutes play time, 100% of which has been spent looking at the title screen... Im refunding this tomorrow if I cant sort it out

♥♥♥♥ me, ofc 2 minutes after i send that I get in the game lmao... Turning off my PC's firewall did the trick, certainly not a long term solution

i was able to get the game running by disabling firewall re-enabling firewall and turning on my one-drive yay!!!!! i can play again! try that see if it works
