How common is CPU throttling?
So, I have a pretty decent system, not the newest, but definitely meeting the recommended system specs.

i7-11800H
RTX 3080
32GB RAM

Theoretically I should be able to run the game decently as I've seen people with similar spec reporting being stable at 100+ fps. Now, I can't say for certain how many of them are being honest vs. how many are just lying to stir the pot, but that's a different matter. My main issue is that my CPU usage will randomly spike to 100% for anywhere from 5-40 seconds at a time. Not a huge issue if I'm on the little bird or running down a road, but kind of a problem when it happens the instant I get shot. It isn't server lag, because the enemies will continue shooting me and kill me while I'm frozen.

I've also noticed that adjusting my settings makes ENTIRELY zero impact on my fps. I can put everything to max and I get anywhere from 27-40 fps (never seen above 40). I can then turn everything to the lowest possible potato settings....and I max out at 40 fps and still dip down into the 20s and throttle my CPU.

Is this a common issue that people are having? I see lots of posts about CPUs overheating, but that's not the issue I'm having, in fact even at 100% usage, my temps stay steady and I'm not having crashes, so I don't expect this to be a cooling issue. I know its an alpha, but I was wondering if there was anyone out there with similar specs that was having the same issue or had found a solution for it. Everything I've seen on youtube and in forums hasn't made a dent in my CPU usage or my fps.

It's worth noting that my drivers are up-to-date, and I have already set my shader cache to be unlimited, as most people suggested that the freezes were a shader-loading issue.

I have a similar rig and was having CPU throttling that made the game essentially unplayable. 3080ti, i9-10900k, 32gb RAM. I was getting 20ish FPS on a good day. I tried all of the youtube/forum tricks to boost FPS but none of them did anything. Ultimately, what made my game run totally smooth around 60fps was undervolting my CPU. That decreased the CPU load and put more on the card. I recommend downloading the "Intel Extreme Tuning Utility" and messing with the voltage.

I have noticed FSR is the cause for allot of CPU over usage in this game. For me i use DLSS and FG (4070ti) but when i was messing with settings, just turning on FSR makes my CPU usage and temps ramp up immediately. Also when riding in the chopper the CPU usage goes crazy on any setting.

4070ti

You also have to restart for Texture settings to take effect. I think the rest will change immediately. Have you tried using DDU, or and SFC/DISM type scans in windows?
BOBER KURWA May 24, 2024 @ 3:05am
Could also be AI dropping your fps. Sometimes when you get to an area close to ennemies you suddenly lose fps
Spicy McHaggis May 24, 2024 @ 3:18am
i have a i5 13400f
rtx 4070
Kioxia-exceria G2 SSD 1TB
Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 C16 2x16GB

and my cpu runs very high around 80s to 100 % , gpu runs well good fps even on epic , tried all different settings but it just wont have it even on low ,just gotta wait for those patches and hope they add some optimisation

just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ optimised game. I run every game in my library on ultra and have never seen my CPU above 80% or GPU above 90% on the highest settings.
this game though running the best i can get it on the low end 100% CPU and 45% GPU

With settings on low with a decent GPU, then the cpu is bottlenecking
Got everything on Epic with TSR on Epic en no framegen got it capped on a steady 60 fps on 1440p.
CPU 40% too 80% and GPU 60% too 95%

Even on high settings CPU is at 100% GPU is 80% or 90%
Anyway seems to be more a AMD issue games not optimised for anything and AMD users seem to have it rough. Managed to get it running ok but still really rough, empty servers are better full servers are worse. I tend to find servers on the other side of the world with lower pop run way better frames and stability overall

Not for me got a 5800X3D and a 7900XTX.
Are you running FSR and Framegen ?
With last install of youre GPU driver did u use DDU ?
What CPU and GPU are you running ?

OP, what kind of cooling system does your system have? If it is not cooled sufficiently, yes, then it is likely you are getting throttled. This game seems to really use the CPU hard, unless you have a high end CPU, in which case the GPU is really pushed. So good balanced power usage is the optimum.

I assume that's a Laptop with an H processor? That may be hard to optimize much more.
Surf Jun 10, 2024 @ 3:46am
I have a 11t gen intel cpu and it's permanently throttling in this game. As soon as I spawn in the main camp, it reaches 100°C. I could fry some meat on the radiator.
PRSK Jun 10, 2024 @ 4:35am
It's simple, you need a better cooling. You bought a CPU that is really power hungry and it's stock cooler is ♥♥♥♥.
If you guys went with AMD you would literally need half the power with much better temperatures and no throttling.
The game is CPU heavy and uses it to the max .
When you have such a CPU in a laptot... thats something to think about before a buy because you can't really get a better cooling in a laptop. At best use a liquid metal instead of thermal paste, it should help a little.

See, that's the interesting thing. Yeah, it's a laptop, so it doesn't have anything better than fans to cool it. I keep it on a cooling stand. Even when the game is freezing and the CPU is showing 100% usage, the highest I have ever seen the temp go was 75 C. Sure, that's hot, but nowhere NEAR throttling temps. I can actually get the system to run hotter than that in 128 player BF2042 games.

The more I read the more I suspect that it's just potato optimization. Some people with basic rigs do just fine, the same person with the same settings on a monster rig report issues. I'm on a pretty middle-of-the-road machine and not a single combo of settings improves performance. Neither has about a half dozen GPU driver updates since release. I'm starting to think I'll just have to wait out the development cycle to play, or just accept that I'm going to die a LOT when the game freezes.

Funny that some users with much more powerfull pc's then me also run about 20 a 40 fps.
I run everything on low but turned off the FX fidelity thing.
Boost is on though.

Ryzen 5 2600x
32 GB RAM ddr4 2600
RTX 3060 12 GB (this card also is too powerfull for a Ryzen 5 2600x)

But funny I run this game with better FPS then some users that have more powerfull pc's.

I have a 5800x water cooled and it keeps temps at bay. 100% usage all cores holding 4.6ghz at 85 degrees max.

My friend has 5800x fan cooled and it cannot hold the temps at bay. Fans at full speed just isn't enough. Had to go to bios and Pbo minus 20 all cores and limit temps to 85 degrees.
