DirectX error on Windows 8

G'day all,

i just got the game, and i am having no end of troubling playing it. when i try and load it up it tells me:
'Please make sure you have DirectX 9.0 or higher installed. Also verify that your video card meets the minimum requirements, and that you do not have hardware acceleration disabled in the Display control panel.'

i currently have DirectX 11.

does anyone know of any fixes?

I do not have the Origins, Ultimate Colection, but all of my C&C games play just fine on Win 7, Win 8, and Win 8.1 except you cannot ALT/TAB out as it throws DirectX errors. It is ONLY the Origins that has problems and the individually bought games do not.

I am getting a bit critical towards buying this game now. My computer is running in Windows 8 & I don't have much money to spend. Is this problem common with specifically Windows 8, or is it some sort of general bug? If this game doesn't seem to work with 8 I am not buying. Atleast my uncle ported the game to me on Xbox like 5 years ago...woo...hoo...

If you get the actual games individually, it plays fine. If you buy the Origins Collection, it will not play at all.

DX9 won't run on Win8. Tested it. The problem is still with requirement of DX, allthough DX11 is installed (with Win8/8.1 by default).

Anyone found any solution for this problem with Win8? I want to play Archeblade on Win8, and get the same error message.

Windows 8 dropped some of the .NET features and that limited access. It was fixed with Windows 8.1 though it needs to download an update from Windows Update after upgrading to 8.1. As for Command and Conquer, I have no clue how they screwed up the gold edition and the individual games still work without problems even on windows 8.

That is the STEAM store page, see that little search bar on the top right at the Steam Store? Type in Command and Conquer and then make it show all. ONLY the Origins Compilation doesnt work with Directx 11. All the individual games, including Red Alert 3, Command and Conquer 3 and 4 work fine. Tell you what, I will start them all up on my wondows 8 machine so you can see from my games list...

EDIT: I am glad I did start them all because I forgot to tell you with C&C 3, both Tiberium and Kane, when you start the games, your screen goes black and dead. Just wait for it. Depending on the speed of your computer it might take a minute or two to load past the black screen. The remainder leave you your cursor and are much faster loading.

Hello! I am fix the problem! I have got Win 8.1 and directx 11. I have try every things? then I launche setup directx (from the steam directory CC3) and reboot computer and launch CC3 every thing OK!

It's nothing about the drivers , i encountered the same problem on win7 and i did what Basilio said , now it works.Just remember to restart your PC after you finish the install of directx

DirectX 11 was included with my computer and it still dosen't work. Even after uninstalling then reinstalling multiple times it just dosen't work. Restarting dosen't work either. (I use Windows 8.1 or 8.2)

CnC3 is directx 9. Try browsing C drive>windows>system32, scroll down until you find d3dx9_24.dll and copy files ending in _24-_43 and paste them into the main CnC3 folder. restart computer and try again.
