DirectX error on Windows 8

G'day all,

i just got the game, and i am having no end of troubling playing it. when i try and load it up it tells me:
'Please make sure you have DirectX 9.0 or higher installed. Also verify that your video card meets the minimum requirements, and that you do not have hardware acceleration disabled in the Display control panel.'

i currently have DirectX 11.

does anyone know of any fixes?

Have you updated your graphics drivers? If you have not and you are not to sure how to do it. I recommend downloading and instaling the following piece of software.

Its a free program called slimdrivers and it will update all the hardware on your system. Be warned the free version is considerably slower than the free version so expect to take an hour or 2 to fully update everything on your computer.

Dose it work for anyone with windows 8 and Direct X 11? Its on sale and me and a friend are debating buying it and the expansion because of this post. Also becasue its EA and they have ****** me many times before even with C&C4 its just crap. I told myself never again EA but its 70% off so im checking the forms first.

i have tried and tried again to get it working, even going so far as to contact EA but it was all for naught. so as far as i can tell no fixes for those of us with Windows 8

The same compatibility issues were seen with Windows XP and 7 for games that were of old generation....this hate on windows 8 has to stop, especially from users that don't seem to understand what they are talking about.

Windows 8 brings a lot of next gen features to the table, and seriously it was about time they came up with a different solution to the start button. The OS has been VERY good to me, I ran it since launch with no reformats and is very light on HDD and battery compared to even windows 7.

Anyways,

To posters, have you guys tried to run the game in windows XP enviroment or windows 7? Right clicking on the executible and forcing admin + windows 7 on it?

Try with compability mode(right click the program exe- troubleshoot compability->choose win7 or earlier mode). 2nd thing to do - install dx9 latest package(u can get it's web installer from microsoft downloads)- it won't break your precious dx11 but it will add some needed dll files. 3rd the issue might be hidden in .net or visual c++ addons... so shoul'd download those to ur win too(.net ones are easy to get, visual c++ has about total 24 installers).

C&C3 simply doesn't work on windows 8 64-bit (at least the Origin & Original CD Version, didn't want to waste money and try on steam too). I tried clean install on various machines with Win8 64-bit. The game simply won't launch. As soon as you've fixed the DirectX Problem, it stops complaining but after the splash screen shows up nothing happens anymore. I even tried with Origin Support and they gave me serial numbers for the versions on Origin Store for free. As these don't have a CD check they thought they might work, but they have exactly the same issue. The Splash Screen shows up but then nothing happens and it silently dies. I searched through various posts and tried various installers from everywhere with no success. It seems that there's no solution to make it work, also EA support has no clue after sending them the DirectX configuration from DxDiag. I also tried NO-CD cracks on my CD versions with the same effect everything I get is the splash screen. So I guess this is also present on the Steam version, why should it work when CD Version & Origin Store version don't. If anyone has a solution to this (and I don't mean a DirectX installer, unless you know for sure that it fixes this exact issue), please let me know.
