Can't play the game through Steam
I have the original CD-ROMs from when the games came out so I had to digitally download them from Steam to play on my newer laptop (no cd drive)

When trying to load the game it says the following error message:

"Please make sure you have DirectX 9.0 or higher installed. Also verify that your video card meets the minimum requirements, and that you do not have hardware acceleration disabled in the Display control panel."

I downloaded the recent version of DirectX. I have no doubt that my HP Spectre has the min requirements. I imagine that the hardware acceleration isn't the issue, but if it is, I can't figure out how to check that.

Anyone else deal with this issue? Please help.

It's likely that the game is trying to use your integrated graphics card or otherwise lesser graphics card. If possible try to set the program to use your dedicated graphics card.

go into windows/settings/display/graphics

chose the game

set everything to high performance.

this fixes ctd and many other problems for games around this time period including but not limted to fallout 3 and nv and a bunch more.

i would try that.

Right click your desktop. Select display settings. At the bottom of the new window select graphics settings. Ensure the menu says desktop app and then click browse, find the exe for the C&C3 game and set the settings to high performance.

Already set that up and the same error message still pops up.

FOUND THE FIX!!!

Right click on the game within steam. Properties. In the Launch Options section where you can type in something. Type in -win
This boots it in windows.
This should boot it, or at least make progress by booting the game in a smaller window.
Once it's loaded, it'll ask you to enter your Username. Enter it. Then it'll load the main screen.
Once that's done, close the game.
Go to C:\Users\(whatever your profile name is)\appdata\roaming\Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars\profiles\(whatever your profile name is)
Then open up the options file.
Change the resolution to whatever is recommended for your PC.
I have a 4K laptop, so mine is 3840 2160
Save the file.
And that should fix the issue if you were getting the DirectX 9.0 error message.

Found it on another forum, so whoever posted that, I owe you my life.
