Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars™

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars™

Hodor Dec 29, 2017 @ 10:30am
Game crashing after launching.
I press play and it shows me the little splash art at the start and then goes black screen however it then crashes and shows me a message saying that the game has crashed and windows will notify me if a solution arrives. Also that splash art is then left there on my screen at the bottom right.

Here's my specs:
CPU
- AMD Athlon(tm) X4 880K Quad Core Processor

GPU
- Radeon RX 550 Series 2 GB

RAM
- 8 GB A1_Manufacturer1 @ 1600 MHz
- 8 GB A1_Manufacturer3 @ 1600 MHz

Operating system
- Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit

EXTRA INFORMATION
I've tried downloading and pressing play from a friend of mines origin account however that also brings me the same error.

I've recently bought the game after getting an itch for nostalgic rts and I'm quite dissapointed that I can't play this game.

Can u give something like a error code? What does the message say exactly?
Hodor Dec 29, 2017 @ 12:21pm
The message says

"
Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notfy you if a solution is available.
"

And then the option to close program, thats it.

Oke can u take a look if there are error logs at the windows eventviewer?
If not sure how then press windows key + r and type eventvwr.
Look at windows-logs -> application and scroll / search the list for any c&c error logs.

hmm 0xc0000005 can be many things.
-Run the game as administator.
-Can try to start the game with any virus scanner / firewall temporary disabled.
-Check if all windows updates are up to date (force search for them dont wait for the auto update) and videocard driver check.

I would run the ati removal tool and install a fresh video driver for this.
Also try a system scan for any errors. Open command prompt with windows key + r and type cmd then type sfc /scannow
This will take some time.

Okay thanks for the advice, I'll report back later whether or not those solutions have worked for me.
Hodor Dec 30, 2017 @ 10:06am
Okay, I have tested out all of the solutions.

The one which brought some results was the ati removal and install a fresh video driver.
Though it still had problems.

Basically when I done a clean uninstall and restarted the computer the driver was now the microsoft basic display adapter and I tested if I can run the game, which it did though since I guess its basically a placeholder driver it ofcourse gave me around 20 frames at main menu.

So i then decided to do the automatic update drivers from device manager, said it was the latest driver installed. I then manually installed a driver from the amd website with these filters selected:
Desktop Graphics > Radeon RX Series > Radeon RX 5xx Series > Windows 7 - 64 Bit
(No option for Windows 8 so I picked which OS I think is most similar.

I downloaded the Radeon Softwar Adrenalin Edition 17.12.2 Optional
(Release Date: 12/19/2017) and done the express install, restarted computer and tried to play the game. It then crashed while starting up.

I think I suppose it's a driver issue, so maybe I need to install an earlier driver seeing as the latest one doesn't work well.

Btw I also rollbacked to see if the basic display adapter driver still ran the game which it did.

Though I have little clue where to find drivers for my graphics card because the automated driver installed for the radeon software and in device manager doesn't really work.

As fellow windows 8.1 user i have the ati crimson edition.
After some google search i found these that hopefully work.

https://www2.ati.com/drivers/whql-win8.1-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-relive-17.4.4-may3.exe

at page:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Radeon-Software-Crimson-ReLive-Edition-17.4.4-Release-Notes.aspx

I suggest use the ati removal tool again for the clean install.

Okay thanks man, I'll try these out.
Hodor Dec 30, 2017 @ 2:34pm
I'm experiencing a problem when it comes to downloading the driver, I can for some reason only update to the latest driver and after doing a clean uninstall and trying to download the driver you directed to me, it says it has finished installation however it still shows microsoft basic display adapter.

I'm not sure if its relevant to my problem but I found that there is a PCI Device in an other devices in device manager that apparently does not have the driver installed and it cant confirm what it is. I looked around a bit and couldn't find a solution to that and have a feeling that it may be related.

I looked into driverindentifier and it found the pci device, clicked on it and it gave me the hardware id:
PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1423&SUBSYS_78911462&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1423&SUBSYS_78911462
PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1423&CC_080600
PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1423&CC_0806

All the compatible ones and a list of drivers in which i can install to fix it installed a couple, they showed up as radeon installer for the device but show that compatible device not found.
It's apparently something related to amd chipset.

Just a small thing before i go deeper into this. Is your cable connected at the right video card port and not the motherboard?
Hodor Dec 30, 2017 @ 2:53pm
cable as in hdmi cable?
Namaride Dec 30, 2017 @ 2:53pm
yes is it directly connected on the videocard? Looks like your pc is confused using the intel onboard graphic and your video card.
Hodor Dec 30, 2017 @ 2:53pm
it is connected to the video card
