I have a PS3 controller and a USB cable next to me so I'll give that a try. (I don't feel like unpacking my PS2 right now.)
I found a PS2 controller and it has a proprietary male plug. I don't have a USB adapater.
No software needed all custom ps2 attachments are plug n play ready.
I actually have a few ps3 controllers with no charger cords. Could I just buy any generic usb 3.0 cord and play it on my pc?
Ahh yea that's right those aren't even considered usb 3.0.
You can make them supported though through usb attachments just like every other controller and the parts are cheap and reliable.
There are some Adaptors out there that give it out as Xinput, but to find wich one isn't as easy.
You could use Steam to map the Input right, as it has that Feature.
I had PS3 Controllers work on Win 8.1 with an proprietary Software, but i couldn't get it run on Win 10.
Overall i would recommend a Controller from 8Bitdo, as they are usable on a bunch of Consoles or they have Adaptors for older Consoles to use it with that.
Dunno why I didn't just try this. Guess I figured modern games just stopped paying attention to DirectInput stuff.
