Tomb Raider: Stella's Walkthroughs

Can we take a moment to appreciate what are some of the best guides for these games since decades ago?

Last year was the first time I played Tomb Raider 1. It was a hassle to make it run properly through Steam but pretty worth it in the end: beatiful game, full of almost esoteric tombs and well thought puzzles all around. Some of them were pretty hard too and looking for a guide wasn't something that took to long to come around.

So I found a page called "tombraiders" with a walkthrough made almost entirely of text (like the good ol' PS1 days) and to my surprise it was precise and to the point. Very easy to follow and with images for those tricky secrets. Not only that but I've seen links to these same guides in a couple threads here, so apparently they're pretty popular around fans of the franchise!

I mean, it's fantastic that guides written as far as 2007 (or even before that) are still current and visited by that many people. Although it's even better that these were updated a couple days ago alongside the remastered trilogy's release. Talking about some dedication! .

Yeah Stella's site is absolutely legendary, it's like a gold standard for what guides and walkthroughs should be like.
I'm sure we'll have the most comprehensive 100% guides for the remastered edition there soon too lol

I remember my brother and I following Stella's guides back in 2002 when I was 6 or 7 to patch TR1 to work on "modern" PCs. We had the Sold Out Software release of Tomb Raider: Unfinished Business: https://www.computinghistory.org.uk/userdata/images/large/45/5/product-84505.jpg
We begged our dad to buy it from Harvey Norman (Aussie chain) and were devastated when we got home and it just didn't work. The installer needed Macromedia Shockwave to work...
When we finally got it working we were so excited to play, even though it had no music and horrific scanlines on the FMVs.

I still use only Stella's guides for Tomb Raider to this day. They're an integral part of the experience. I hope she's doing well and realises how much she's helped people over the years!

As good as the guides may be, I absolutely hate the blinding white backgrounds.
