Bad Uncharted rip-off
Can't believe they thought they could get away with making just a worse Uncharted game.

I think what it boils down to is 2013 and onward have too much handholding. You can't be creative or solve things on your own, you need to do things a very specific way and in the way they explicitly tell you to.

2013 had great spectacle, choreography, voice acting, etc, and the story was nice, it was just such a massive downgrade in gameplay. I liked it but I don't blame those who didn't.

I didn't play the other two games after 2013, Rise and Shadow. I read they were pretty good.
"Play the classics" (if you dont bother tank controls, you know, the ones from 1996, 1997 and 1998 that you have purchased at Steam ... that btw are full of bugs as these are piss poor ports and when I really want to play I play the PS1 CDs I have on emulator but still purchased these on Steam as "support for the real Tomb Raider games)
The classic Tomb Raiders dont have spectacle, choreography, dontt have "good" voice acting and have very little of it, story is "ok-ish" and none of this is the focus of the Tomb Raider games.
"Maybe" you like it, maybe not, even more for the tank controls and "poor graphics".
It's because they're completely different games. Different direction, different motives, especially in the current gaming landscape. People want spectacle, gravitas, edge-of-your-seat action which I think is perfectly fine.

The thing is the classics are more puzzle boxes with 3D platforming, the new ones are action games. I like what they did with 2013 but I'm excited to try the originals to see what the hubbub is.

It is what you said, puzzle boxes 3D environment free exploration without map and without any help where good part of it is related to the main puzzlling itself and other good part is finding the secrets and all items (so in that regard it is also a collectathon for items and secrets), combat allways was "existing for existing" and not the focus of the game as combat never was hard and if you deal with combat fine at Tomb Raider 1 against dinos and lions you deal the same against soldiers and other arrmed enemies too (at TR 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5) as it is allways "jump sideways or running around and fire nonstop until enemy dies", just some bosses are different and puzzle related.

it clearly says in the title 1996.
Just because a game has a number in the title doesn't necessarily reflect when it came out. Did Mario 64 come out in 1964?
No, but it did come out in 2064. That's why it's called Mario 64.

Yes, as the new Alone in the Dark coming next month is clearly a copy of Resident Evil

To be fair, the AitD remake team will assuredly be looking at some of Capcom's work on how to make a remake for the 2020s. Even if AitD predates Resident Evil, it'd be foolish to assume Resident Evil wouldn't inspire at least in part some of the remake.

Obviously an assault on masculinity having Indiana Drake be a womenz now.

Also, everyone knows the historical facts that a womenz couldn't fire a gun, let alone two at once.

Nathan Drake basically invented treasure hunting.

Na, its good. 👌💎

Only "30 fps classic mode" and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ modern controls is a no go.

If:

- the lighting wouldnt be so dark
- the controls would be less clunky
- it would have checkpoints instead of manual save
- the texture tiling wouldnt be as visible
- they would use tesselation for the textures

it probably would be a 85/100

But even the way it is now its for sure ~ 78/100

Uncharted is just one of those interactive movies, with style over substance approach. It looks cool, but its way too easy to play. 👶😴😴😴

Didn't Dino Crisis inspire that Steven Spielberg book Jurassic Park?

the new ones are just cinematic with button prompts and deer hunting skinning animals... sure the graphics are nice compared to the 1996 tomb raiders but gameplay wise next gen tomb raider might as well be called cave hunter.

Too right, that.

Nathan Jones also invented video games based on the invention of treasure hunting.

I knew it! Devs will degenerate until 2064 so much that the best they can do is N64 graphics again.

I would welcome a return to soulful N64 and PS1 graphics.

Or at least some soul in games after all.
