I am new to the series (original), how many hours of story content is there?

If by "story content" you mean cutscenes, very few. The games are pure gameplay with a few short cutscenes between stages

If by story content you mean "play time" to complete the scenario, it really depends on how long you will be stuck (and believe me, you eventually will), but each game should last something between 10-20 hours

It's roughly 20 - 35 hours per game, so for a new player with the extra levels I'm going to say over 100 hours easily.

Tomb Raider (Main+Extras) 15-20 Hours
Tomb Raider 2 (Main+Extras) 16-20 Hours
Tomb Raider 3 (Main+Extras) 20-25 Hours

But I'm sure my playtime is more than these. Because I always try to find everything and search every corner.
