MAC-10s, not Uzis?
I'm not really big on guns, but I know I'm correct in stating that for this remaster, Lara's Uzis were remodelled to look more like MAC-10s, just like TR Anniversary's 'mini SMGs'. Why though? I get them not changing the names of anything erroneous like "magnums" for the Natla Tech pistols, or "clips" for every magazine, but why would Aspyr completely change the look of one single weapon to be different to what it's called and displayed as in the OG games?

The game says they are uzis, so they are uzis.

I should know.

Switch to classic graphics to see what the "Uzis" looked like in the original 1996 game. The MAC-10 is a better match to the original weapon model than even a Micro Uzi would have been; and I think the folding stock of the MAC-10 made it easier to implement into the game as mirrored dual pistols both when drawn and when holstered.

It's just a good old-fashioned mistake made by Core back in the 90s. "Uzi" was commonly (and erroneously) used to refer to anything vaguely machine-pistoly. The devs may even have known they were modelling MAC-10s but chose to use the name Uzi anyway just to conform with audience expectations.

Yeah the originals always looked more like MAC-10s, even with what little texture-work they had on them.

You already answered your own question here "I get them not changing the names of anything erroneous like... ..."clips" for every magazine". Just add mac-10 to the list they are uzis. 😁

I know what they all looked like in the OGs, but I think they looked way more like Uzis, especially with the adventure of TR4's model. What I believe is that they drastically changed the look of the guns in the remastered graphics.

Dude, I've been playing these games for well over 20 years, and I'm not talking about the base game's 90s models.

There are real Uzi SMG's which basically look exactly like MAC-10's.

The in-game model in classics was always a MAC-10 while they always called them Uzis. In TR IV & V the in-game model was still a MAC-10, however the pick-up icon and inventory select model was a Micro-Uzi.

Classic promotional art also had her more clearly holding MAC-10s. Its just a case 90s game devs who didn't know guns and just used popular terms that didn't always match the weapon model they went with.

and tons more promotional renders of Lara carrying a MAC-10.

As a gun nerd / game player I've learned to just treat gun mistakes as alternate universe stuff. In the world of classic Tomb Raider the people who designed the MAC-10 worked with Uziel Gal and that design is called the Uzi in their world.

If you can't use your imagination or just ignore it, then download a mod which gives the weapons their proper names.

You can modify the text files yourselves to call it whatever you want. Call it the 'bratatatatat' if you want.

Alternatively there is a mod to replace the MAC-10s with full size Uzis...

or Micro-Uzis
https://www.nexusmods.com/tombraidertrilogyremastered/mods/242

The Micro-Uzis fit a bit better with the rest of the series. As I mentioned TR IV & V at least use Micro-Uzis as menu/pick up models.
