Always surprised by old remaster system requirements.
Processor: Intel i3 3240 or AMD FX 4100
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDA GT730 or AMD R7 240

You would think this remaster would run on my very old laptops from about 2009.
Intel T9300,
9600M GT 512MB
4GB RAM.

However I noticed a lot of very old remastered games are way over spec, like Quake remastered too. I can play them on my modern PC of course, but am always, "Like what", when I see sys req.

It depends on the lighting model used. Typically even though the geometry is still basic and even the textures the modern lighting models used are quite intensive.

hey i just thought of something, run openlara in a browser on those potato laptops and if that don't work, that could be the answer

The old graphics are switch-on-demand. To meet your expectations, the two versions would have to boot separately.

The remastered graphics are good enough that no sane person would expect them to run smoothly on 15 year old hardware.

I get 60fps on an Intel celeron N4020 with 4GB ram. I think the system requirements are over estimated.

fun fact: 4GB ram is the minimum requirement microsoft claims for windows 11 or in other words:

The minimum amount of ram in the system requirements for this remaster is literally the same as for just windows on its own.

That's because you have no clue how computers work.

Remastered visuals take up more power, thus higher requirements. Have you actually seen what they added? Its substantially more optimized than any Nightdive remaster on top of it. Playing on classic visuals is almost the same as playing the original ports so your assumption applies to that only. I'm literally running this for memes on intel 4000 @ 1080 lol.

I wondered if it might be lighting.

I figured with the engines being so old, that there would be a limit to how much they could add. That there would not be too much more that they could implement.

You hear about games being updated and adding to much breaks the game or exceeds the engine.
