Modern controls?
How do you jump sideways, backwards, etc. with the modern controls?
How can you take a step backwards or strafe?

Did they take those actions out? lol

You have to have weapons out.

Just play with tank controls. Its how the games were meant to be played and they still work better.

You have no weapons in the tutorial. And you also didn't have to have your weapons out in the original (if I remember correctly)

This is just weird from a £25 remaster lol I'm pretty sure most people were looking forward to this because they found the original controls too clunky.

Modern controls are a nightmare when you reach the second level in the first tomb raider game you have so save after every tiny jump because you will likely fail 2 or 3 times and fall down becaue of it. F5 save and F9 Load game on repeat with it.

Feels like they havent even really play tested their game here.... I hope they can patch it in the next days.

Yeah. The "modern controls" was supposed to be one of the main selling points of this collection.

Its like predicted.

The level design is just made with the precision of the original controls.

Its possible to update them, and they added some little things to make it easier (like being able to hang off a ledge if you accidentally run off a platform), but the original controls are part of the core design of the games.

yeah modern controls is pretty much unplayable, its great for running around, but when you actually have to precise jump etc its impossible. you cant even wal to a ledge and then jump back a step with modern controls... im used to play modern controls in legend, anniversary etc, but this is just unplayable.. i had to go back to tank controls.

You they are, it's like Prince of Persia but in 3d. That game also had a lot of animations and a lot of puzzles and traps, but this was 3D, not 2D. Modders might improve them but I don't think they will ever work, even shooting spiders with these controls is so bad. It's trying to be Tomb Raider Anniversary but it just isn't design like that game.

So... Are the controls a hindrance to accurate game play?
Are the controls not the same as the original play station controls?

If original controls then this should be fine.
I remember playing this a few years ago on an emulator and the controls made the game unplayable, shame as the first, second and third game were the best of the series.

Forgive my ignorance, but what are "tank controls?"

The remaster has two controls options, original (tank controls) and modern.

Tank controls is literally how a tank controls in real life. You can only move forward and backwards, and turn left and right. Although it's actually not 100% tank controls because it is possible to strafe left and right if you walk.

This is not true. Modern Control Lara can do every single movements of Tank Control Lara (except for side walking). Flip jumps and back jump in the grid is possible if you drag the weapons. Also you can back stepwalk too and you can slow walking for save movement in borders. The grid long jump is the same.

I played more than 50% of Tomb Raider I remastered with modern control and in my opinion, at first, Modern Controls are confusing because the game doesnt talk about them in any tutorial, but quickly modern control make the game easier than tank control. Modern control are more intuitive.

Aspyr official support web was published this movements list for modern control:

Ok gotcha. Thank you.
But... Are the controls the exact same as on original play station or are they changed ?

Tank controls are the exact same as on original Play Statation. Nothing is changed.

Modern Controls are tank controls remaped with modern joystick moving.

lol i found the new modern controls much better. i've not played the old tomb raider games since they came out. the old controls are awful lol. my brain is not use to that way of moving anymore without the camera following you lol

Well, I bought the game and I can tell you, from my experience the tank controls are far easier to use as they incorporate all the moves. We are used to fine faster movement now so the slow movement and awkward turning will take some getting used to.
The only issue is that there was no camera control then so the camera moves with Lara.

Modern controls for me are so awkward they are no good, I'd die every minute with them, not very user friendly.

But, the most surprising to me is that the overall ease is with keyboard, drawing guns and action on the mouse.
Tank or keyboard for me :steamhappy:

It would be so much better if the tank controls had the movement of modern or mouse and keyboard, smooth, fast and accurate instead of clunky and slow. would be worth patching that in to make the overall experience perfect
