Time to learn a new thing about classic TR platforming
go to the most left edge corner, hold Action key immediately followed by Up direction button and Lara will grab the ledge. Have fun~

It depends on the geometry, Jump + Action works when there's no or partial wall in front of Lara

So this has always been a thing, and it's the only high wall jump with this issue in the game as far as I remember. Go to the corner where it is higher, but do NOT jump, as you won't reach it. Instead just face the wall, press forward and action and she will jump herself and you'll be able to reach the top.

clearly some aspects of the game have not aged well.

For most situations if you're climbing up a wall just hold forward and action in front of the wall. Lara will automatically jump up and grab it.

Don't use jump and action unless there is no wall in front of Lara and pressing forward would make her jump forward.

This secret is really bad though. I knew what it would be before I even opened the picture. And I say that as a massive classic Tomb Raider simp.

You must climb on the left corner.

I just had this problem too, seems to be an issue where if you try it via the jump method it will not work. However if you face the wall and hold action and press forward, in that corner spot, it will work. I just did that myself so I can confirm.

I had same issue (I always forget about this).
Go to left corner but not completely so Lara will not clip thru wall and press
forward/up + action(hold) , no jumping.

It does work, just hold action like everyone said. I was having the same issue. Worked first try walk to the wall, then hold action, then press forward again. Look out for the bat!

well, secrets 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
1st is in a high entrance at start level, you must to go in front of the wall under that entrance, you'll have a slide behind you. you'll must to make in sequence a back jump, to land on the slide, then a frontal jump, clinging at the room floor. then pull up inside the secret's room.

2nd it's a little bit over the first. wait the bats and kill them, then watch at your left in the light cave, watch the white wall, go in front it at ALL LEFT, then DON'T JUMP, BUT PRESS ONLY THE ACTION BUTTON AND ALSO PUSH THE FORWARD DIRECTION BUTTON. It'sthe only one mode to bring the high board. Then pull up and get the second secret.

3rd it's in the final level location, inside a room hidden by climbing plants.

For modern controls, is not action button but secondary button.

Hold RT/R2 + Up on every climbing.

The same for climb down, just hold RT/R2 while moving and Lara will automatically turn and grab the ledge.
