Because the game was never designed not to have tank controls, it's the developers way to say "screw this ♥♥♥♥, we are forced to include this inferior control scheme that is not the way how the game is supposed to be played"
Otherwise most people won't even touch the classic controls to realize that they are better and necessary for enjoying the games level design.
Very "elitist" in your post. Modern controls can have both the side jump and backflip if they were to just implement those actions based on if you press the inputs (left, right, or back) and jump at exactly the same time, similar to the game "Star Wars: Jedi Outcast" and "Star Wars: Jedi Academy". Likewise, they could implement normal movement in the game (with "Modern" controls) to be similar to using mouse look with tank controls in the sense that Laura looks in the direction of the camera while moving, or at least have an option for that. Those two things would be helpful not just for the feel in a control sense, but also to be able to play with as much control as needed, regardless of which "style" a player uses.
Ok i tried it at Croft Manor , I play with controllers but i do your way with my keyboard.
Curious that Press "MR" is necessary to Backflip if you don't press it doesn''t work.
With my controller I find a way to backflip when im slidiing back by pressing "Jump" and "Roll" at the same time then Lara's do a rolling backflip, in tank mode it's not the same feeling u press it step by step.
I use this new features for refresh my experience gaming and see the limits of this.
For the moment it's OK but when u are on little platform movement and jump can be frustrating, and camera can stay locked.
My buttons all work fine, playing with controller.
I am from the 90s myself not a new generation at all. Grew up playing these the same way everyone else did back then, I just like too experiment if the option is there because why not right? Was just disappointed the way the modern controls was implemented so went back too the classic nostalgic control's lol
