How to mod?
Ive found a few mods i wanna use, but cant figure out how to actually get them into the game, because i cant find a guide online about how to do it. I dont want to end up breaking anything trying to figure it out myself, any help would be appreciated.

Since you don't know what the files you have do, you would be using Nexus mods.
Nexus mod users explain how to install their mods on the page in the description. Use some common sense dude.

Ask Clippy.

What mod are you trying to use? I'll walk you through it and give you pointers for where things go. I've installed many so far with little-to-no issue.

Most mods are going to be texture related. They are going to be labelled as .DDS files. Those are going to go into TEX folders. Don't accidentally put it in the TEXT folder or vice versa. I did that once and the mod obviously didn't work.

Some mods are for one game, some mods are for multiple or all games, so make sure you put it in the proper game folder. Tomb Raider 1 mods go in the folder marked 1, and so on... obvious stuff.

Some other modifications will also change the model in game. Those will be files labelled as .TRM and go in the ITEM folder.

Most sound related files will go in TRACKS folder.

If you have any issues, all you have to do is ask. The more specific you are the easier it will be to advise.

Also, a bit of advice, back up the 3 game folders (1, 2 & 3). I created an extra folder called "BACKUP in the install folder alongside those numbered folders (this will take up an extra 5 gigs of space, so maybe just back up individual files you'd be replacing if you're tight for space). I then copied the 3 folders into BACKUP. The reason? The mods replace existing files... if you end up not liking the mod you basically have to either throw away files and verify the cache from the properties menu or completely uninstall the game and then reinstall. Both of these take time. Not huge amounts if you have a modern computer, but still much faster to just back up the files you're replacing.

Trust me, some of the mods ended up being a bit disappointing and I ended up going back to default or choosing another alternative.

It's simple, download the mod, read the readme; instructions, usually posted on the mod page and follow directions.

I hope we can eventually make our own levels with the resources in these games.

I'd actually love to work on some of my own ideas...

I'd like to see Mists of Avalon done with this engine's capabilities.
And the Mist: Resurrection remade levels.
The possibilities are endless... and modders are improving the work already done.

One of the first mods I downloaded was a mod that improved the animal skins in TR 1.

Have you ever played the Mists of Avalon TRLE?
I've only briefly played a bit of a single TRLE level just to see how it works... I should play it though. Some of the levels look amazing.

It was actually quite surprising to find that most TRLE act as stand-alone games and are not files you place alongside the base game.

Thank you so much, I was fighting the mods for hours before finding this comment. Now they work like a dream :)
