Atlantis Level looks bad to me
dunno what it is. but the new Atlantis/Great Pyramid levels in this game look so weird to me in Remastered graphics. it might be to do with playing Anniversary. but seeing this version looks wrong to me. even the classic version in this game looks better to me.

it's a matter of perspective. and i know people are going to disagree. but here's some pictures and stuff comparing

i like them all, just feel wrong about this "New" Atlantis compared to the former two (TRA and the original)

Mod i'm making to attempt to fix it. going for a mix of the TR1+Anniversary Aesthetic

It's just the light. I think it looks good, especially the walls of flesh, when I thought they couldn't be creepier. One of the mistakes of Anniversary was to dismiss them.

I still don't know what the heck are Atlantis/The Great Pyramid supposed to be. I mean, when I was a kid I didn't understand those wall and floor textures, but they were so pixelated anyway so I didn't mind.

These look to me like the least favored stages by the remaster (at least from TR1), but it's probably due to the bizarre nature of them compared to the rest of the levels.

It seemed fine to me, moderately disgusting, like its inhabitants, but the blockiness de-accentuates its grotesque tones
here anyway, I noticed two minor medikits, absolutely impossible to collect, on the first you get hit by a stone, on the second, by magma, it's a question of timing: it's just not possible to do it in time

always felt the same since TRA. i mean, for instance. the series Stargate Atlantis looked nothing like this lol, i looked into it though and gathered some stuff from other people

In the original, they seemed to be guards - possibly a warrior race from the time of the original Atlantis. They were actually shown in Lara's flashback in TR1, which was omitted in TRA, proving that they were inhabitants of the original Atlantis. -Elysia

The original textures blend into each other much better than the remastered.

It gives the remastered that "HQ/High Definition 4k Textures Mod" feel that many games end up with.

I had this "feel" in pretty much all TES games when installing HQ/HD packs, Duke Nukem 3d's HQ packs, Thief's, etc

I think the problem is that modders go through each texture individually and do not attempt to blend then with other textures, something the original textures always tried to do.

how? i used textures from within the game itself, just repurposed them over other ones with renaming. it's a WIP mod i just began recently. your negativity is very helpful :hoxton:

my idea is to try and create a mix of TR Anniversary's textures with TR1. going for a more volcanic setup that i feel is more fitting to the enemies the player fights. it's not perfect. it's not suppose to be. it's just something i put together out of passion.

Apparently Atlantis became a semi-sentient place and is now made out of living flesh, as if it was a twisted bio engineering attempt at a mass producing factory for the atlantean warriors.

Natla went full Umbrella with the place.

I actually liked what they did with Atlantis, the new textures really bring out the organic side of the level. Those floors with the transparency look great, and I like the depth they added to those beige brick walls with the flesh underneath.

The only thing I'd say is the lighting lacks a bit of contrast, and the coloured fog can be a bit heavy sometimes, so areas can look a little dull despite the nice textures.
