How tight are the speedrun achievements?
Are the achievements for speed game completion tight enough to require speedrunning tricks or is the foreknowledge of the game levels and decent but not flawless execution good enough to complete them?

My first completion of TR1 base game took 9 hours but I have never played the game before and took a long time exploring everything and stumbling around aimlessly in some cases. Is it the case that you just beeline to the end of the level, ignoring all the secrets and optional pickups? Won't that make some combat encounters pretty difficult?

lets just put the glitchless speedrun records in comparison to the achievement requirements:

TR1 Glitchless WR: 1:30 Hours
TR1 Achievement: 5 Hours

TR2 Glitchless WR: 1:30 Hours
TR2 Achievement: 6 Hours

TR3 Glitchless WR: 1:48 Hours
TR3 Achievement: 6 Hours

i would say that's fair enough for anybody to achieve.

Not a game completion achievement, but the TR2 training course achievement doesn't leave much room for mistakes. I got it but only at 1:19 and I really don't know how I would shave off more seconds.

yeah, same for TR3's assault course and quadbike race achievements. those are pretty tight.

I did it in 18.2 but I could have shaved 1-2 seconds easily by not messing up twice at the final zip line.

As for the speedruns I reckon they are quite doable looking at the times above.

Damn yeah you could have saved another second with the zipline :)

The one thing you did better than me was the jump just before the bridge: I somehow never tried jumping from the very top of the platform before, to fall right on the edge. I always jumped from the inclined panel and fell a bit shorter. Ended up spending a few seconds climbing.

Good job!

I got the training course one by 1:20.9 so it seems the devs gave us a second of grace. I'm horrible when it comes to speedruns and speed challenges in general so... Thank you lol.

It's incredible how someone as athletic as Lara takes SO MUCH TIME climbing those ropes D:

most of the glitches still work in this version of tomb raider, tried and tested.

You can skip a lot of that part where you do all the side jumps, forward jumps, in sequence. I saw a speed run of it. Maybe avoiding the first climb up wouldn't be as easy, but just jumping on the two platforms and then over the slide seem very easy to do and cuts a lot of time off.

Speedruns usually yield really good tips. I remember using one for KH1 speedrun trophy on PS4. It was actually super easy and there's tons of amazing skips I learned.

Thanks. Yes, that part is a good time saver. Lara climbs so slowly anything that avoids it is a big saving lol.

Wow, there IS a lot more time to be saved!

The time limit is no problem.
i dont used any glitches and finished TR1 in 2:30. You just have to know the way.
And yes, you will ingore most of the pickups and enemys.

I skipped the pistols in natlas mines and ignored all enemys.
Additionaly i skipped the colosseum pit by jumping straight to the balcony.
And i used some time savers like jumping from the sphinx to the uzis and straight to the lever. (the games wants you to climb down und up)

F*ck, that would have made that level a lot more easier! Oh well, I will surely keep it in mind lol.

It's a nice area but it takes quite some time to go through in the intended way.

i wouldn't advice anyone to follow a glitched speedrun, just to meet the 5-hour-mark. that's complete overkill.

while some tricks may look simple, most of them are not. that atlantis-skip at 51:00 requires both frame-perfect timing and pixel-perfect execution, and has killed countless WR-attempts. also the QWOP-glitch at 2:50? nobody needs to do that kinda crazy stuff, just to save a minute or two.

go with glitchless to be safe. 5 hours is enough to finish the game twice.
