do anyone could finish TR3 on PS1 with crystal save system only? i think its ultra hard. i never had PS, and started to play Tomb Raider on PC in 97.
last time i finished TR3 with all secrets [with guide help] i used 1281 saved games;D
"Finding" the secrets or the way to it is a special thing, even more on a game that is all about the puzzling and exploration and imho a special thinh you spoiled yourself off of by using guides.
Kinda agree on the traps on the first level of 2, still that part, although hard, is a short burst of action that gives you that feeling of reward after surviving it and will make most people want to continue, I'd same the same applies to the whole game. Yes the 2nd game requires more observation and planning than the first one but it also amplifies that sense of accomplishment.
Completely agree on the secrets but same thing I said earlier applies to those.
I stand by my point on the first level of the games. TR I and II are mostly corridors with few collectibles and a couple areas that are bigger and of course traps that vary in difficulty, it's clear where you are supposed to go. But in III you have this completely open level with 0 directions and more than 30 collectibles, you have to figure everything out by yourself and it involves a lot more trial and error and wandering around.
I've also heard more people being stuck forever just in the first 2 levels of TR III making them quit as opposed to giving up on the floating islands of TR II, which means they almost beat the game.
I never actually finished the third game back then for the same reasons, it just got harder and more confusing.
Yep, that's pretty much exactly how they made the game :)
It's a shame a lot of games these days don't really do that anymore.
I'm 2 achievements off the 100% atm, Gotta finish TR3 on NG+ and under 6 hours.
Only a few levels to go, but there are some hard bits in there for sure.
Thankfully there are a lot of skips and glitches in TR3 to help with the 6 hour one but that save limitation in NG+ is a doozy.
games had to be difficult because they are short
Nah, you have to really be trying (like trying to backflip off the balcony and into the tiny pool in 3) to softlock yourself in the original 3.
In 4, you can simply follow what appears logical to do and the game lets you do it no issue before you realize you're screwed.
Like back flipping into the "secret room" in the shaft down to Set, or just getting out of the jeep in level 3 or 4.
I meant more something like this:
TR 1 - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3177632024
TR 2 - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3247371221
(yes, second one is outside of Lara home.. I just "missed" the jump with too low health? (better.. I should had not jumped).
Also I did not take screenshot but I managed once to teleport Lara so far above the map the whole level was like some 100 pixels wide (I could not replicate to take screenshot or make video)
On PC I would consider TR4 the most difficult, I got stuck all the time and a lot of the puzzles are not well communicated. Though the fights are not that hard, since you get a ton of ammo all throughout.
But if you do count original release and NG+, TR3 is ridiculously difficult and if you don't do Nevada first and don't find a lot of secrets, which is much harder than in TR2, it's almost impossible to complete.
The difficulty of TR2 varies greatly wether you collect (all) Secrets (on NG+ this is pretty much mandatory), but since collecting secrets isn't that hard in that game, I don't think this game is all that difficult.
TR1 is the easiest, even with Save Crystals. I guess I would rank difficulty liike this:
Easiest: TR1
TR2
TR5 (Patched)
TR3 (Remake)
TR4
TR1 NG+
TR2 NG+
Hardest: TR3 NG+
Before anything, PS1 at my country was imported but more often than not not by ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stores and memory card was sold separately, I only had a memory card like 1 to 2 years after and games that required memory card I had to play like that, no "saves" meaning death or console shutting down = redo everything from start of the game.
i found TR 3 to be the hardest out the first 3 games.
