There's a limit to what a remaster can do. They can't fix the entire locations being scrapped from the game or the multiple new game mechanics Core couldn't fully implement, polish, and make work cohesively, because they had to rush a game that needed at least another year of development.
AoD would require its own separate treatment, because everything in that game was built from scratch without reusing anything from previous entries, it controls and plays completely different from previous entries. I-II-III, and IV-V share the same mechanics and gameplay structure, with only a few new moves added each game, so a lot of the work made for one game can be reused for the others. AoD would need a lot of work (and rework) only for AoD.
Tank controls are "perfectly intuitive" and people that got used to modern controls say it is "fine and good" too.
Well, "review" started good as it seems, lets continue:
But now we've moved on to discussing what comes next for Tomb Raider. The answer should be the new 'unified' game that ties together the Legend trilogy and the Survivor trilogy, but as ever with Lara Croft in the modern era, it's a swan dive forward and a backflip back. I wrote that this new design was starting the era off on the right foot, except now we've been told this isn't actually the reveal of the new Lara. It's just a new Lara they're revealing. Needlessly confusing. We have no idea when the next Tomb Raider arrives, but the remastered trilogy is teasing Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, AKA Tomb Raider 4. That's not the direction we should go in.
No, there is no need to have a unified version that ties Legend and Survivor trilogy, I would not mind a Classic and Legend unified version (using modern controls more appropriate to Legend while having the Tank controls of the classics and games focused on exploration and puzzling on non-linear levels but also giving the option to highlight the path and highlight where Lara can jump).
No, the new design is starting the era on the second left foot (as if it is possible, but it is double wrong).
The remastered trilogy is teasing Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, AKA Tomb Raider 4. That's ABSOLUTELY the direction we should go in and reviewer saying otherwise is just nonsensical and someone that never liked a Tomb raider game to begin with and is wishing Tomb Raider games go back to be Uncharted featuring Lara Croft.
Anyway, lets continue:
1 - People like Tomb Raider games and the classics
2 - TR 4 (and 5) are good Tomb Raider games (even tho I know some/any may not agree with me in special in regard to TR 5)
3 - TR 4 and 5 are also the classics at PS1 era and make for a whole lore of the classic TRs
Anyway, lets read the review:
The gist of this tease is a GPS marker on a map that points to key locations in the first four Tomb Raider games, despite only the first three being present. Knowing that the fourth game isn't substantial enough on its own in the modern era, fans have extrapolated from here that it will be The Last Revelation, Chronicles, and Angel of Darkness in the next trilogy. This is a square peg in a round hole, and not just because early Tomb Raider games were incapable of making circles.
The first three games in the series go together neatly into a trilogy, so it makes sense to package them this way. Likewise, Tomb Raider (2013), Rise, and Shadow all fit together. Even though my favourite era is Legend in the middle, everything outside of the original trilogy and the most recent trilogy is fairly messy.
" Knowing that the fourth game isn't substantial enough on its own "
Talk for yourself, TR 4 is great too, I myself dont consider it to be as good as TR 2, 3 and 1, but it is still a Tomb Raider game and a veery good one. It is substancial enough on its own and is big enough to deserve its own stand alone remaster but placing TR 5 alone is only logical as TR 5 would be the "DLC" (for today standards) of TR 4 and continuation of the lore.
Games dont have to be "trilogy only".
I only say that "Angel of Dorkness" need a complete overhaul and remake but not in the sense of Survival trilogy.
"Messy is the new trilogy and somehow "AoD" but I say the most "messy" thing is this review by STACEY HENLEY.
Well ... I dont have time now to read all the review but it is pretty bad and biased until now.
TRC would be not that so easy but possible because it needs more and I mean fixes, add that opera dress(drooling) and new models, and more story levels for satisfaction(insert TRIII Promo Lara quote).
AoD is a joke to work with then just emulation fan patch.
Other then that I would slap my face and go Legend Trilogy and ugh my way past the finish line unless I go Hard or Harder. Oh well at least there's mods ugh mostly from Nexus then Github that has three maybe four mods.
Angel is too different, probably has to many engine conflicts with older games to be paired with them.
Not to mention it was a generational jump..
1 to Chronicles were all Ps1 titles, Angel was a Ps2 title.
TR6 instead should be a remake but to be fair till Crystal Dynamics is around it is better to avoid it.
Once I get the next remaster I'm done with TR. I have no interest in whatever CD is doing with the series.
AoD could be the best tomb raider if fixed.
I dunno about best but it could be a good experience for sure.
I'm afraid I don't have much memory of Angel, it's been a long time since I played it.
Not mine, no mine loves to beat me with them on a regular basis.. usually when I try to sleep xD
Every night I see it.. all those rings.. those terrible controls..
A superman who can't superman... "shudders"

Maybe one day AoD too, but it would need a lot of changes.
