It’s only sharks I gotta avoid? Can I kill barracudas?

Yes. These don't count for the achievement. It will unlock once you head to Tibet if you succeded.

Thanks!

This probably has to be one of worst achievements. Easy to make a mistake apparently just hearing chomp noise is enough to disqualify it…. And it’s like 4 levels long to complete it, lol.

I actually found it pretty easy. If I remember correctly the only "tough" part was the last level to get the secret and the key out in the water. There are 2 or 3 sharks. Otherwise sharks are pretty slow and easy to avoid.

Yeah it is a bit annoying, I reloaded several times just in case where I thought they might have chomped even when I didn't take damage. But honestly the Fire Safety achievement is worse - The Deck is an absolute nightmare with it.

Can I completely skip the secret areas to avoid some of the off the path shark encounters? Or do I need to actually actively enter all shark infested waters? I’ve been trying to skip as much as possible to get the challenge over with and will go back later replay more casually to collect all secrets type achievements…

Fire safety has one thing that makes it less annoying. Each enemy only counts once, so you can reload after each enemy to get your medkits back.

Ya but it’s later that I leaned that chomp sound could disqualify it and I don’t know if I reloaded and tried again at any point and four levels is a lot to have to replay.

No need to trigger all of them. As long as you didn't damage and didn't take damage from any of them it should work. I got it on first playthrough and I missed quite a few secrets. Also killed Barracudas.

Fire safety is easy, just save whenever you meet any Flamethrower guy, do the thing and reload.

Thanks some of the online guides we’re telling people to go after secrets along way I was thinking what’s the point? I’d rather devote to doing those when I can focus on killing and clearing out the enemies more….

I had no idea you could reload after every flamethrower guy. I suppose it does have a progress bar, but then some other achievements with progress bars had problems across multiple runs anyway like Circus of Vilcabamba.

Maybe they're just considering the maximum potential of achievements in a run? I did all secrets and pickups because I wanted to do as few runs as possible of the game. Like when I get round to pistol only I don't want to have to think about collecting all secrets and stuff like that, so I wanted to do as much as possible first time.

Problem is isn’t there mutually exclusive achievements too? Like if you go for one, you can’t get the other one in same run?

“ Circus of Vilcabamba.”

How does that one actually work life heard people claim you can do it all off the same bear (by resetting the run), and others claim each separate bear counts as a different one and you need do it for each bear…..

You need to do it once for each bear in a single run, save before each encounter and give them time to "walk" and drop, I let all of them do it twice just in case.
Unless there's a weird way to glitch it

With TR2 there are only two cases of that, since there are achievements involving both using the boat and snowmobile and not using them. Otherwise you can do everything else along with all items and secrets in one run.

I think there are more of those kinds of achievements in TR3 though, but I haven't started that yet so not looked at them in detail.
Kenichip Mar 14, 2024 @ 5:30pm
Bear achievement had to do with all 3 different bears in the same run. Not sure about post patch but most level based achievements are obtainable in a single run.

For those "mutual exclusive" achievement, just make a save at the start of the level and don't overwrite it. Then play the level until you got the achievement, then reload earlier save for attempting another achievement. As far as I know, only TR3 both Kayaks, Coastal Village both paths to the village and River Ganges Monkey Temple path (conflict with all secrets) are affected. Thus technically you can get all related achievements in a single playthrough.
