Jump backwards with modern controls

Using classic controls, you can tap down on the dpad to jump back a bit, so you can get a run up to make long jumps. Can this be done with modern controls?

While holding your gun out, tap backward (make sure Lara's back is facing the camera).

But then she can't grab anything. So you have to put the guns out, jump backwards, let go of the aim button and jump forward to grab the ledge?

You will laugh: It's not possible. But, she grabs the edge when you hold the action button while running over an edge.

Modern controls have been improved, but, they're still a "workaround". Best way to play the games is with tank controls and keyboard.
