Modern Controls Overview (Official)
Aspyr has published a new overview of the modern control system.

https://support.aspyr.com/hc/en-us/articles/23948827137549-Modern-Controls-Overview-Tomb-Raider-I-III-Remastered

- The controls are adapted from Tomb Raider Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld.

- The mouse / right stick has full camera control and Lara moves directionally based on camera position.

- Players can remap most of the inputs and switch back to tank-style controls via a toggle in the options menu.

Quickly reading through it, it still doesn't tell me how things like "Walking to the edge, hopping back and running forward with Jump held down for a consistent running jump off the very edge" would correlate to these controls. I guess I can only find out the hard way...

Honestly, I don't like how this sounds. Still, its going to be the first thing I test out in the training level.

Free left stick movement in a grid based game...? Sounds awful. I thought it was going to be driving style controls. Like the original Halo port where the vehicle would go wherever you pointed the camera.

If it does suck I'll just stick with classic controls...

Nice find. I'm still kind of confused as to if there's strafing with the modern controls. It seems like perhaps there will be given it says side-stepping is unavailable, but if you can strafe whilst running it would be a big change over the classic controls. It's also strange that side-flips can only be performed with weapons equipped since you don't need that with classic controls (albeit you can't side-flip whilst running).

The drop and hang is interesting too if you can simply do that whilst facing a ledge, because with classic controls you had to back up to a ledge to drop and hang.

I wonder if there will be an option to toggle weapon equipping rather than holding. Given how long I sometimes want my weapons out, holding the button the whole time could get annoying.

Holding shoot to ledge grab makes sense though and streamlines the controls a bit. I like the harpoon gun auto-equip under water too, rather than having to go to the menu to select it (though on PC you have weapon specific keys [if they kept those] so it's not as big a deal).

Sounds like how it should have been back then for pc.

Silly remarks aside.
They did say in the interview that they put effort into it.
Of course I'm just assuming here but maybe these new controls deactivate the grid system.
Which would explain why you can't switch with a press of button like the graphics. Only from the menu.

I really hope it doesn't deactivate the grid system, since that would kill the spirit of the game if you ask me. But it seems like the modern controls might have some advantages over the classic ones anyway.

as stated, im just assuming.
even if it gets deactivated, i cant see this as an issue. some of the jumps may be done differently then but sadly no demo to try out. all we can do, is wait for its release.

I don't know, for me it'll be kind of sad if the modern controls have a big advantage because there's too much automation. Not that it should be a big deal since I generally play the games casually, but I don't know if I want to be tempted away from the classic controls if modern ones are much better.

to me, its very welcoming. i already struggled back then with the classic controls and i struggle today as well. unlike other games from that time like original resi titles and dino crisis. never had issues with them.

Yeah I'm looking forward to trying it out personally, I do wonder if it'll remove some difficulty but I can't see many people sticking with the tank controls when a superior option is available. It really is a situation of crippling yourself for nostalgia's sake.
