SoTTR only got ray traced shadows
it doesn't have RT reflections
if you have played that game you would have noticed that you can't see Lara's reflections in water

Still better than no RT

The point is to keep the original look of the game. Ray tracing would drastically change that.. Not to mention Lara is constantly on natural caves with no light sources. Devs would have to do a lot of redesign to add lights to those areas that would be pitch black otherwise... At this point the game has lost it's original look completely and it's beyond the scope of this remaster.

This

I personally hope they have done the bare minimum to bring it up to modern times.
I hope the cut scenes do not show that mouth moving when she talks, the movement is still a little clunky and, the t-rex is still terrifying.

This 'millennial' is looking forward to this.

Not every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game needs to be ray traced.
Certainly not but its a nice bonus if they did wont complain if they dont

Ah, the old "Only Good GFX = Good Game, because superficial", you are getting 3 games with the extra content that was only on PC, for the cost of an Indy game that are more often than not intentionally more retro looking, its not a bad deal.

Lol this reminds me of my brothers and sisters getting all whiney when I said I was going to make them watch a film from the 1970's because that was so old and it will look so bad, then after absolutely loving the Life of Brian, they were begging me to put on the even older Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Lol mind you I know more than a few people who would complain that tetris doesn't have RT and so isn't as good as it could be :P
open-lara-reimagined-realms on moddb
I mean Ray tracing would not have to ruin the art style of the originals but as someone who absolutely loves Ray tracing... This doesn't need it

I have been looking forward to this for a while - Tomb Raider Anniversary had me wanted a remastered 2 and 3.
Well i guess the renderer is unreal overlaying the original source code. If it is then it should be easy for modders to add it atleast. And if you can force it to run DX9 then you can run Remix for a full path traced experience aswell... in theory.
The question is not the absence of ray tracing but the real reason to re-propose remastered old games, not remakes, for the sole purpose of making money, aka cashgrab, certainly not to please fans.

What the hell are you talking about? The fandom has been asking for remasters of these games for more than a decade. Some fans even banded together to try to remaster them on their own.

Who asks for a remake? Anniversary was a remake and was the least selling game of the entire franchise!
There already exists a mod for it on the original games, probably someone will add a ray tracing mod.
If it had raytracing I'd have to purchase a new graphics card.

Raytracing adds very little to the overall game and if implemented badly can destroy it.
And performance hit is so not worth it so yeah a gimmick at best.

Depending on your level of demand, no GPU will be enough, even for old games.

I have an RTX3090 and for me games like Quake 2 RTX or Serious Sam TFE are basically unplayable with ray tracing. Either the performance is going to be horrible, or I need to degrade the image to a level where having realistic and beautiful lighting is no longer worth it since everything else is full of noise, artifacts, traces, etc.

RTX performance all depends on the devs. Say Doom Eternal and Exodus runs with RT quite fast even on day a 3070. But pretty much everything else runs quite slow on the same card. Depends on the devs and how much effort they put in at the end.
