Well, now don't you look ridiculous now that impressions have been coming in saying the complete opposite, from people who have indeed played the game.
yep, i'm doing exactly this. I gave this licence a try once, it cost me 30€ and I felt cheated.
I won't get caught another time and my advice is: "don't buy it unless you know what you do". Give it a try if you want, you're a free gamer but I won't buy..
btw, everybody here was talking about "the Hunter", not Cabela's... it seems that it's the most popular.
It def is for juniors as it does have that amusement park NON-STOP action feel. I have never played "The Hunter" and will probably check it out but I suspect it's probably like the old Trophy Hunter and Deer Hunter games from 15 years ago, where half the time you didn't find $H1T, and you really had to use scent neutralizers and pay attention to wind direction and noise level and all that stuff.
Try theHunter dude, its an open world enviroment and you can play co-op with up to 8 players. So if you need help or anything, just join a game with a couple of players and they will probably try to teach you the basics :)
I don't think I want to track animals like The Hunter for 3 hours of real time to see a single deer precisely when it sees me from 800 yards away and takes off, but seems like there are deer everywhere in this game and it's pretty easy to sneak up to a tree stand and then it's like shooting ducks in a barrel. The one thing I didn't like about The Hunter - There was a sudden slowdown for just a second when your target animal spawned into the map so it was tipping you off to slow down, crouch, and look around because now you are close.
This game is very fun, almost identical to how the Hunter plays (minus the hand held computer thing for tracking in the hunter), looks great, runs super smooth, perfect controls. There isn't as much underbrush as The Hunter (at least in the first area Southeast) where you could lay down and an animal might actually trip over you. I think some of the sounds might be lifted from Call of Duty like when you crouch or go prone it sounds like in those games and no real caution about the noise you are making and reloading could be straight from the COD series with your character slamming a clip in as noisy as possible.
But it's a solid game so far and will take a while to complete all the different challenges. I think it's just under The Hunter but very close and might even be better for people that don't want to track an animal for an hour or two in real time and sometimes do a hunt and never see a single animal.
I would pay $60 for The Hunter to release a subscription free game. I've had a 3 month subscription once and then a 6 month subscription, but I didn't use it enough to justify paying to extend the subscription yet again. For $30 this is not a bad compromise.
The Hunter = ARMA III (simulators)
Cabelas = Battlefield 3 or 4 (a little more arcadey, but not as bad as COD running around like crazy).
Hahahaah ♥♥♥♥♥♥ Steve Pool! LOL
I've played theHunter and I hated it. Need a permit or membership or whatever to hunt ANYTHING in that game. Why not just bring out a full release and let the players pay once for the whole game, instead of teasing them with "Free to Play". Sure Free to Download, yes and Free to Run Around and waste time, sure... If you want true realism then don't expect it from software, go out and shoot animals with a camera. There's nothing better than the real thing. If it has to be PC or Console then fine, but play the game and forget the graphics (though graphics helps, it doesn't define the game). I would not recommend theHunter to anyone ever! Cabela's Big Game Hunter Pro Hunts is by far more superior to theHunter.
If you tell people the game is "free to Play" then in my mind that should mean the WHOLE game is free. If there is an in-game currency to use to buy guns or equipment then fine let's have it, BUT if you need to spend real cash to pay for in-game cash then you can stuff the game into a hole. Let the players go and hunt animals, earn points and spend the points on weapons and equipment.
I personally think they buggered up with theHunter where it could've been a pretty damn good game.
