-Similar in terms of the driving experience, but you should bear in mind that Expeditions revolves around scouting and exploration, and that the driving experience is more difficult and more technical. It's pure offroad. There's literally no roads, anywhere.
- Vehicles are only persistent in the map WHILE an expedition is ongoing. The host can take up to 4 vehicles and people who join the host can pick only one. After an expedition is completed, all vehicles are cleared from the map.
- Multiplayer is peer-to-peer just like in Snowrunner.
- Only the host can customize host vehicles, yes. Vehicles are only customizable by the owner of the vehicle.
- Progress is indeed handled cooperatively, and things that you do while playing with another person will be updated for the save file of every person in that match.
People who join you can indeed bring a single vehicle from their saved game, but not multiple ones like in Snowrunner (only the host can bring up to 4 vehicles). All players are free to swap between their own trucks, and any truck that isn't occupied. If a friend of yours wants to lend you a vehicle, your friend will then have to start the expedition with that one, and then swap into one of the host's spare empty vehicles.
Players can customize a vehicle while they are at the deployment screen, but nothing can be customized once you load into the expedition map. You literally go to places beyond civilization and without a garage, so once you get started, you're stuck with what you have until you finalize the expedition.
The previous means that you have to make sure beforehand, that your vehicle is the right size for the job, that it's suitably equipped, and that you're carrying enough supplies. Read the expedition descriptions carefully and review the map before you launch so that you get an idea of what the terrain involves, how much you're gonna have to travel, and which tire type will be most effective for the area.
