There is pretty detailed comparison of those two games:

After playing for a few hours it isn’t what I expected, and it really isn’t even close to the same level as Snowrunner.
Expeditions is okay just no where near as good as Snowrunner, but maybe with future additions this game will be better but for now it is just okay and it’s still fun to play.

Very different feeling from Snowrunner, but similar physics and, well, you're driving trucks in both. Beyond that, they're different games, but I highly recommend trying out Snowrunner. Best contrast I can make between them is that Snowrunner's levels are HUGE, but sparse, whereas Expedition's maps are much smaller (so far) but are much more densely packed with challenges. As far as I've seen, there are NO roads in this game.

It's not what I was hoping for in a snowrunner sequel. I really wanted to see an environment where I would have to use dozers and bucket loaders to clear roads and such to open up new areas. I would have thought they would of expanded on Snowrunner. But this to me is a step in the wrong direction.

Carpathian maps actually pretty big and rough to explore. Haven't tried Arizona yet.

Yeah, it's definitely not what I was hoping for. I wanted to get out and walk around and discover things and interact with the world both in and out of my truck. But the company has brought me countless hours of fun (and brain-melting frustration) so I was happy to support. But man, yeah, like you said; a different direction was what I think a LOT of people were hoping for. I think a lot of people who get this will be shocked when they play Snowrunner next lol!

No, it is pointless, no freedom, no exploration, no new trucks (17 out of 20 is just copied straight from Snowrunner).

All "expeditions" are not expeditions as per our understanding. Unless you call below an expedition:

- start in point A
- go to point B, but only using 2-3 pre-created paths on a map as everything else is inaccessible
- go to point C, select again 1-3 pre-created paths that are within 20-100m apart
- go to point D, this time there is only 1 narrow path
- go to point E, this time you have 1 narrow path and one maybe possible
- congrats you've finished "expedition"

Now... Go to Unity/Unreal Engine learning assets, and find an "open world" racing game. Use any of the available map generators (yeap it will create trees, rocks, paths, roads, and villages for you in any size from 100m x 100m to 10km x 10km within 5-40 minutes). Then in tutorial, you can find a route generator which will give you more freedom than this "exploration" gives you....

Oh wait, what if we would use free assets from Unity/UE and now charge you 49 quid for it? Would you buy it? UI/UIX is one of the worst and looks like a junior created it.

Horrible.

If you want to walk out of your vehicle to do stuff then check out Pacific Drive it's an awesome game.
Yeah if people think Expeditions is kinda frustrating then they will definitely be surprised if they try to play Snowrunner.

You have to remember these games are being made to appease the casual console crowd which is going to be the majority of the market. Ovee's Spintires was still the best experience of all 4 games. It was more realistic in many regards and more designed for sim minded players. The change in companies/devs and directions towards the console market sealed the fate.

Expeditions has pretty much the same driving mechanics as SnowRunner, but it is a very different game in many other ways. You can drive yourself nuts trying to compare the two or just accept that it plays differently. I've got in just over 28 hours now and I'm really enjoying it. There have been a few visual glitches on one map that didn't affect gameplay. Some of the mission descriptions and presentations are rather hard to comprehend, sometimes the objective is off-map, etc. However, I haven't come across any missions that are broken or undo-able. I've completed eighteen expeditions so far.

I have Pacific Drive, but I don't like that you can't save mid-mission, so I basically stopped playing unless I KNOW I've got at least an uninterrupted hour or two to play it. But yeah, it's a lot of fun and the first-person driving looks a lot like Snowrunner.
