Expedition "Heavy Load", other folks having trouble with this?
This expedition has defeated me twice. First time I sent out a truck with extra fuel and supplies, managed to free the stuck truck, but ran out of fuel trying to get it to the final checkpoint.

Tried it again, this time with two trucks with lots of fuel. Got them to near the stuck truck and transferred all the remaining fuel to one truck. I got the stuck truck out again but could not get it up a steep slope before I again ran out of fuel.

Perhaps my biggest issue is that I can't get the stuck truck turned around, instead I'm dragging it backwards. Would pulling it from the front help?

I just finished doing this mission. I had to try twice. On both, I dispatched a Coyote and a Step.

On my successful attempt, before I transitioned maps, I refilled both trucks with the Cargo Drone from my outposts. Ultimately the Coyote was overkill as I didn't need to use it for refueling purposes.

On the actual pull I used the Step with a Twin-Motor winch and I also used the Specialist that increased winch length / strength. Step was equipped with everything filled with fuel so I had somewhere around 525 L of spare fuel.

I ended up pulling the truck out by the rear and never turned it around. Turning it around probably would have helped as I could then turn the engine on. If you do pull it backwards, turning on the engine will make the wheels stay locked unless you drag it towards you with the winch.

---

So yes turning it around would probably help but it's possible to do by dragging it backwards and not turning the engine on.

Thanks for your help. I'll give your suggestions a try. I'm not sure what you mean by Cargo Drone. Would you explain? Thanks!

Sure. So there's a cargo drone item you can build on your base / outpost. It allows trading with that base from anywhere on the same map at a cost of fuel from the drone stand. So what you do is build a Cargo Drone base module and say an Essentials Supply module. You drive to the gateway and before you go through you use the cargo drone to top your truck up.

Just figured out the mission to give me the cargo drone! Thanks for letting me know about it.

It's in Coconino. South East corner. If you've done the Golden Trail Task you should have ended pretty close to it.

Yes, some of the expeditions can be rather confusing. "Heavy Load" is under the Sonoran Desert list, but you start on the Grand Canyon map. You need to cross that map, then enter and cross the Coconino map to transfer to the Sonoran Desert map. It can be off-putting but to me it is part of the "exploring" part of the game.

I have 18 hours in the game now and while I've done some head scratching to figure out how to do something, or come here and ask questions (thanks again Pandorian!), I've not found anything that's impossible. Tough, or "Very Hard" as the game labels some missions, but not impossible.

Just wait until you have to pull the Tatara out in the river forge mission. You will have lots of fun. Took me 3 restarts.

I used your suggestion, but only took the Step chock full of fuel, then refueled it with the cargo drone before leaving the Grand Canyon map. Got to the stuck truck with lots of fuel and was able to get it unstuck after a few minutes. Then I spent the next half hour or more trying the steep slope to leave, then dragging it back to the water hole to try another way out. That didn't work so I went back to the steep slope and re-positioned the Step over and over until I got the darn truck up the slope!

Didn't get *too* close to running out of fuel, but it was getting a bit dicey towards the last few hundred meters. If I had gotten stuck one more time I'd be dry. Thanks again for the help!

Only the bugs of the towed truck getting stuck in invisible mud-pit not there a minute ago, winch-wire clipping through tree so tow truck is on one side and towed truck is on other side of tree, towed truck getting stuck on pebbles, towed truck cutting the corners instead of following the tow trucks tracks, etc.

that one is by design, truck always turns towards you. Which means in tight places you want to either keep the line short or detach and reattach from different angles.

An anooying bug that happened to me is towed truck crashing int me cause I was slower than it and pushing me into textures, causing both the towed truck and me to get damage and spaz/flip on side.

Heavy Load is really buggy *XBox series X - I have redone this mission 4 times - spent 5 hours on it last night- tried on 2 different Xbox series x consoles. When I attempted to tow the vehicle to the Sonora Zone -I started with two Tetra Force trucks with the large fuel tank on the bed of the truck. When I arrived at the gateway to another region it would not provide a message with a key/button to push to get it to take both vehicles...I refilled one vehicle to the max and went to the next region with one vehicle. Trying to get it to allow me to take 2 vehicles... I tried everything - restarted over and over - when I got to Sonora I don't know what I pushed but I finally transferred both vehicles... after multiple restarts. Now I am at the delivery point with the towed truck - nothing happens - the vehicle is in the yellow box... will not show "Stage Complete" message... I can not advance to searching the area... I restarted xbox several times - hard boot, cold boot, logged out - hard boot, nothing... a day later - moved both trucks in and out of yellow box - no change - this is the 4th time I've tried this task... I also noticed that engine sound sometimes is crackly - sometimes quiet... It is not just an issue with the truck - it is an issue with access to the region and progression in the game. In snow runner if a cheevo would not unlock - it was possible to do another task - and then return to see if the cheevo would unlock. In Expeditions - this is not possible as the activities are sequential - until a region's "free roam" has been unlocked or a region's base has been unlocked. If I go back to beginning base in the menu - I will have to restart the task from the beginning. I tried both Xbox consoles today - when it starts up I am at a location - a bit down the road - I attach the truck - tow it to the destination - and nothing happens... I am not going to play the game until I receive a response from tech support - I submitted a bug report - awaiting a possible solution. the next challenge will be to go to the zone to discover 100% - then the task will be complete. ( I tipped over the truck after delivery - that is the only way I can turn off the engine - there is no way in the game to turn off the engine... thus when it runs you deplete fuel from the tank - I have about 1/3 of the tank of fuel available .. - Until this task has been completed I will not be able to have a base in Sonora... I do have the ability to travel to Sonora from an adjacent region... this is the first task "Heavy Load" that must be completed to continue progression of the game - after this I need to complete Budget Hole - which is the next task, and after that For a Fist Full of Copper - these are the 3 tasks that are needed to unlock free roam in Sonora. several times had to restart game because when vehicle tipped over - and I used scissor jack to replace - wheels would be embedded in rock... -
