I really, really, really, need to buy this game.
Should I wait a little first or just go straight into it? I have all the other games, but I enjoy Snowrunner the most. Sadly I have it on PC and PS4 but PS4 seems to have stopped selling the latest DLC.

OK, I like hunting down things and enjoying the scenery. I heard the game takes you to the main menu after the current mission is done. How does everyone feel about that?

If you like Snowrunner the most - watch some gameplay videos before you buy it, it might not have what you're looking for.

This is slightly incorrect. You do not have to return to the headquarters menu after finishing an expedition and can continue driving around in free roam mode. You only need to return when you're ready to do a new expedition. You can still get upgrades, build bridges, do tasks, and do contracts in Free Roam.

As for how I feel, it seems fine. Loading screens are a bit annoying but it's really not that much different from planning things in Snowrunner. The expeditions usually take you to different parts of the same map so keeping your vehicle on the map and not recovering would cost you more time(in driving to the new area) or money(in recovering back to base) than just doing a restart which refreshes your bases' and airdrops' supplies.

It's quite jarring to have to go back to the staging menu each time you complete a mission but I've gotten used to it. There's another issue that will likely be jarring for SR players which is not being able to take extra vehicles to new maps without winching them along with each other and once you enter the new map you can't go back.

also the map layout i less cohesive an more all over the place. I actually like that part but some might not who are used to "roads"

Supplies you use each run cost you money and you either have to deposit them in a camp or forfeit half of their value when returning to base.

Also there are less maps but I'm not sure I'd count that as the maps are still big and more of the higher tier expeditions will take some time to complete so I still think value in entertainment per $ is still pretty solid.

Oh, that sounds much better. Thank you.

There's a lot to see in the maps, mostly landscape wise. Not a lot of varied points of interest. Sometimes a downed plane for example.
Depending on how many vehicles you bring and the resources, you can stay in either of the larger regions for hours on end. Do the main expedition and side quests. Explore, go to other maps of that region, hunt for upgrades etc.

And of course there will be expansions and other updates as well.
