We'd like to clarify that Marmalade Game Studio is responsible for the new Ticket to Ride game only. Unfortunately, we don't have control over the sunset plans for Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition. Any inquiries or concerns regarding this will need to be redirected to Twin Sails via their support page.[asmodee.helpshift.com]
We understand that change can be unsettling, especially when it affects a beloved game like Ticket to Ride. We have been actively engaged with the community during the development of our game and we are genuinely grateful for the incredible support and assistance we've received.
It’s this collaboration and the relationships we’ve built that have motivated our decision to offer the Europe map to all the players of Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition upon our big launch. This has always been the plan for us and it is a decision we’ve made independently, with the sole intention of giving back and showing our commitment to the community.
Please know that we are listening. If you have any questions or concerns about the new game, please don't hesitate to reach out to us and join us on Discord[discord.gg] to speak directly with our team.
Thank you for being a part of the Ticket to Ride community.
This isn't a Twin Sails issue. it's one with Asmodee and their current partners, yourselves included.
"Change can be unsettling" is a very unfortunate take to post, when it's dishonest and customer hostile activity.
Taking part in a "pay again for the same game" scheme, where pre-existing customers are given a "free" tiny amount of what they already paid for doesn't really solve anything.
And why is this being done? Because Asmodee fired the division who built the original version.
This isn't a matter of entitled users expecting a game to be supported forever. This is a matter of a publisher who is choosing to support the game, but not the customers.
------
And no, publishers should not be in the business of revoking products. Just because something is ten years old doesn't mean making the deliberate choice to cancel and replace it with a direct equivalent, removing functionality from the product is OK.
2020 was like yesterday. It would be understandable if the 2012 game were not supported by current computers, I would say, like those Windows 95 games from the mid-1990s. In this case, Ticket To Ride Classic runs well on modern machines, even better than graphic intense new gens. Plus, Ticket to Ride classic has extremely wonderful art style, which new players cant experience again. THe art style will remain wonderful, I am sure, but, it surely feels like an anti-consumer contract is at play here,.
I doubt it's a matter of change here, but that people feel that they purchased a game, and now that game can't even be played anymore for no other reason than you guys are releasing a new version of it.
Nothing really is changing. It's just a new developer's version of the same game.
Want to show some gratitude for customers who owned the game and want them to buy the new one? Offer a digital coupon for existing owners on Steam to get the new one for 50% off if they buy it within 30 days of the release. Continue this with each of the DLCs that they also own when those are developed and offered for sale here. Show the customers that bought the game previously that this isn't just a cash grab.
Thank you all for your comments. I understand there might be some confusion regarding the different versions of the game, and I'd like to help clarify this! We at Marmalade Game Studio are only responsible for the new Ticket to Ride, and we are not directly involved in the development or management of Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition.
We've obtained a license for the digital rights of Ticket to Ride from the IP owner because we are big fans of the game, and we wanted to create the best possible digital version of it, but the development and release of the new game are separate from the sunset plans for the classic edition.
I also wanted to clarify that the decision to offer the Europe map to all players of Ticket to Ride: Classic Edition upon our big launch was an independent choice aimed at giving back to the community that has shown us support during our development stage.
We deeply value the passionate Ticket to Ride community and the heartfelt feedback you've shared, and we want to encourage an open dialogue. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to let me know!
I'd like to see Marklin map.
Frankly, this whole thing sucks - Asmodee/Twin Sails/Marmalade between them have decided to destoy the games we bought and paid for in good faith very recently. There are no issues with the games whatsoever - they play perfectly. It's just a disgusting cash-grab and a kick in the face to all of us who paid good money for these titles without any warning that we were throwing our money away, which I'm sure they knew while taking our cash.
This "customers don't matter" attitude disgusts me.
I'm retired and my kids are cash-strapped students - I wonder how much it would cost to get back what we have already paid for? The game and 10 DLCs (well, 9 if Marmalade are giving me Europe to mitigate my losses)...
I hope the new Ticket to Ride's AI will be better than the Bella/Marmalade Game Studio communication AI who is only able to repeat the same words endlessly...
It may be possible that Marmalade Game Studio is not fully responsible of the fact that the old game has been cancelled, but there is no other way to punish Asmodee than rejecting the new Ticket to ride game, refusing to buy it, expressing our discontent, making bad buzz and expecting a failure to push Asmodee to change its policy...
